Looking for a non marking bezel removing tool.
Hello fellas!
I would like to know if any of the DWC members use a specific type of bezel removing tool that does not mark the case or bezel.
Using a pry knife is out of the question for me, lol.
Regards,
Gerald

Pry knife is fine, but if you are worried just put tape on everything in site.
Any tape would do in a pinch, but I can recommend some of this Amber polyimide tape, as I find it really good for this kind of thing http://www.ofrei.com/page250.html (Scroll down the page a bit)
As you can see I am also a bit paranoid about inflicting scratches

I'll agree with nick on electric tape... Although it can tend to shift it never seems to fully tear with the pressure a knife can inflict on other tapes which are inclined to stay put. Best to be liberal in the application on both anyway, especially if it's a stubborn bugger...
It really just depends... I've removed stubborn bezels recently which were supposed to be a breeze given the model, and quite the opposite for others. I've found it's best to be over-prepared and especially patient in the removal... Hopefully it merely pops-off with minimal effort and you're surprised at the result. In the case for a Sumo bezel I just removed for a friend the case back knife wasn't enough and I had to use a piece of laminated diamond wood I ground down to just the right thickness on a belt sander to seal the deal.
I have an otto frei case back tool you can use if you'd like. PM me if interest and i'll send it your way.

I prefer a guitar pick plus a bit of finesse; no metal or taping necessary.

A cheap case back knife with protection works fine. The more expensive case back knives do not. (believe it or not) If you use a specific tool , I would be a betting man it will mark it.Axelay2003 wrote:Hello fellas!

If you use the plastic from the dial and case back of the CD-2, this is thick enough for the job.
If you pry it up a little, then readjust the plastic (the case back knife will cut it a bit) then pry it again until it clicks, then take it off by hand.
Of course this depends on the watch your doing, not all bezels want to come off this way
If it is the CD-2 let me know and I will send you pictures walking you though it.

Really, this works?belligero wrote:I prefer a guitar pick plus a bit of finesse; no metal or taping necessary.

One of your wife's manicure orange sticks might work too.
only accurate watches are interesting

It depends on the pick, but with the right profile the taper will just wedge it free without any prying necessary.

I use the bezel tool wrapped in a polishing cloth. Works great if the gap is wide enough.

Todd's got a great tutorial if you are doing it on a CD2.t20569cald wrote:A cheap case back knife with protection works fine. The more expensive case back knives do not. (believe it or not) If you use a specific tool , I would be a betting man it will mark it.Axelay2003 wrote:Hello fellas!

Re: Looking for a non marking bezel removing tool.
Thanks for all of the replies fellas!
The Polyimide protection tape coupled with a guitar pick might be a really good option theoretically in my mind. I'm just afraid that the metal prying knife may slip and gouge the metal. I'm extremely careful when I perform micro/macro work anyways, but it's better to over prepare, .
Todd, would you be able to give me a run down tutorial on the bezel removal of the CD-2(although I will be doing it on a different dive watch)?
Regards,
Gerald

I use an awl, a chisel and a hammer for most of my watch work so I'm probably not the right guy to comment. Oh, and typically beer is involved
