New MM300......SBDX017

Post by smalls » Mon Jun 08, 2015 6:28 pm

Looks like it's all but official. No more SBDX001. Supposedly the new MM300 has 8L35 with MEMS parts (whatever that is) and a signed prospex crown. No word on diashield or sapphire yet.

Interesting, any word on the quartz Tunas? I've been wanting a SBBN013 forever.

I'm on my phone, and the picture sucks, but it looks like no/minimal visual changes which is a good thing. Hopefully the bracelet gets updated with shorter links, more removable links, and a less bulky clasp.

Weight is showing at 214g so no Ti. I really just think they went minimal changes with this. Probably diashield, I doubt sapphire, and then the usual specs. I wonder if they'll use a different lume to whiten the markers up. You can barely make out the prospex crown on the Mm300 in the lower right of the pic below.

As far as the Quartz Tunas, here's the pic. By the way, neither of the pics are mine. Got them off WUS

Looks to be 44.3mm x 14.6mm and 214g presumably on bracelet.

Anyone here see the new TACTICO tribute to Seiko 6159? Check it out.

Can't believe I've never owned an MM300. Came close recently, but some other needs came up. It's still a watch that haunts my dreams. We'll see if this new version pushes me over the edge.

I really don't like those Tuna hands.

I'd like to see one. Seems better balanced and maybe no longer top heavy albeit larger than the original.

I called it but am disappointed with this. . .

Putting that crappy "X" on the crown is a downgrade IMHO and what's the point of MEMS if your 8L35 is still unregulated? There has to be more here otherwise why?!

I agree with you, the X seems rather unmatched to the rest of the watch, it would be nice if it did have Diashield.

The model I'm excited about is the sbbn035 blacked out Tuna. The Darth is just a little too large for my taste otherwise I love it. Excited to see its new smaller brother in the flesh.

WTF is MEMS? Anti-Magnetic?

I'm fine with the original, although it looks the same and same dimensions so it'll work.

Some sort of ultra high precision manufacturing technique for metal parts. I haven't seen a technical explanation.

Yeah MEMS is some cool shit, but if it isn't regulated it may as well be the older version 8L35 IMHO. Oh well... have to wait another 15 years then... Glad I just took delivery of my SBBN015 today.

Don't follow this part - the 8L35 is promised to be +/- 3 seconds a day right out of the box. Isn't that a regulated movement?

I don't recall all three (or four?) of mine, but I recall one being +5 and another +1, so I'm not worried about it.

Is the case larger than its predecessor or not? I'd like to see a side by side comparison.

Seppia wrote:Where did you get the +/-3 sec per day?
If I recall correctly it's something like -15/+25
My two MM300 were +15 per day and +8 per day respectively
The marketing materials almost always quote -10/+15 seconds a day for the high end mechanical watches. But, internally, they rate them using a "AA", "AAA", and "AAAA" system of accuracy standards. These correspond to -3/+5; -3/+3; and -2/+2 seconds a day respectively. Those are the actual expected results. The 8L35 should correspond to an "AA" standard, based on the scale.

Having owned about as many 300MMs as Brice has owned Pelagos, I can say that experience confirms the -3/+5 standard easily.
