We all can agree It's a much better business plan than Yao's ... Use Yao's koolaid drinkers to gauge interest on design and pull the rug out. I bet drawing board to completed watch took lees combined time than Yao's been sick the last four years.CGSshorty wrote:I find it hilarious that not one, but two, homages of the Pan Am were brought to market before the MKII.

It's hot. I don't even really like Steinhart but would wear this. Just the mvt isn't a true GMT, I'd like to see how it fares long term.toxicavenger wrote:stolen pics from WatchURsHIT

^^I don't the older Rolex Gmt's had a "real" gmt movement either.
But I agree longevity wise we will see how it goes.

Re: New Steinhart GMT
That's correct. The only way to track a different time zone on the old ones was to rotate the bezel; there was no way to independently adjust the hour hand from the 24 hour hand. The GMT didn't introduce the independent hour hand until the 3085 movement. The old 1655 Explorer II's were the same, without a rotating bezel - they were originally designed for cave explorers so they could keep track of day and night while underground.toxicavenger wrote:^^I don't the older Rolex Gmt's had a "real" gmt movement either.

Re: New Steinhart GMT
Speaking of true GMT watches ... possibly the best, most functional GMT watch on the market today is the Seiko Astron line. In particular the latest 8X series. 40 time zones including 15, 30 and 45 minute offsets in odd time zones. All made possible by GPS synchronization.
Whether or not the size and style appeals to you it's functionality can't be denied.

only accurate watches are interesting
Re: New Steinhart GMT
it's more functional, but not nearly as sexy looking as the rolex GMTs
Re: New Steinhart GMT
That's true for now. Brett suggested we may see more traditional versions coming out in a year or two. I wouldn't hold my breath for a Rolex copy though.

Re: New Steinhart GMT
Miss my 1675 but it was a bit of a hassle in rotation with other watches. No quick set (which started with the 16750 IIRC) and no independent hour hand.toxicavenger wrote:^^I don't the older Rolex Gmt's had a "real" gmt movement either.

I'd usually wear it for a week, put on something else for the remainder of the month, then wait until it got about 24-48hrs ahead of the date the 1675 had stopped running before re-setting.

Thanks for the link, Joe. The 6542 has long been one of my all-time favourite Rolex references, but to see a piece (in the metal) previously thought to exist only in WIS fairytales would be something else.

That Steinhart looks really good. I may try one. One went quickly on 'recon over the weekend I think.
