Omega X-33 Gen 1... Thoughts??
Omega X-33 Gen 1... Thoughts??
Lads, I've been looking at an X-33 that's FS on WUS.. Basically it's from 1999, and has been put through a lot (from what I can see)...
My question to all you fine horological Geniuses is... Is that one worth paying that kinda dough for?

That's actually a pretty good price for an X-33, even given that it's been worn hard enough. They're great watches if you like them. I had a Gen 1 and now have a gen 2. Very light, very functional. Alarm can wake the dead. Cool backlight (and lume too). Good for travelling. I would double check everything is functioning correctly - the guy seems like a DIY type (not that that's necessarily a bad thing).
The Ti bracelets are expensive if you're thinking of getting one to add to the piece. They wear well on straps though. Here's a couple of pics of my former Gen 1. I still have a coramide strap for mine and I love it. Good luck.
This is the coramide strap:
Cheers,
Anthony

Service history is a bit odd, so if you buy, I'd ask for some kind of return period to make sure everything is in good working order.
Personally, the gen 1 and 2 look isn't my favorite. However, the gen 3 is

I agree, good suggestion.

"Within a minute a day"
wtf
I want a gen2
This one is asking for trouble, not down the road but anytime after you open the box.

^ I tend to agree.

Thanks for all your responses Buds.. TBH, I've always found this to be a great looking watch but way out of my price league so when I see that one at that price range that I could go for, I started thinking about it, but any and all troubles I would find would be very difficult to settle being that we don't have any watchmakers around here
Love those pics but maybe I should just enjoy the pics and move on..
Thanks guys

Or buy this one. Serviced/warrantied and with a bracelet for a few hundred bucks more. I can't believe nobody has grabbed this. If I had the dough I might just b/c it's a great deal.

Price dropped to $1000 OBO. It's a bargain, but a risky one. The price drop is indicative of the market's wariness of the DIY servicing and crown issues.

He also edited the listing to note a crown failure, which happened on some Gen 1s. Full service on these is $700 (not sure if less w/o bracelet), and includes a whole new module if needed. There is a partial service that can be done for less, but it's a judgement call by Omega and no warranty. Not sure what this one would "qualify" for. Don't think there are many independents (that I know if anyway) that will/can work on these.

Just assume it needs a full service. No bracelet? I'd imagine it's more of a deal at under $700.
Re: Omega X-33 Gen 1... Thoughts??
a thousand bucks (maybe less after negotiation) for the Gen 1 is a bargain - trust me I looked for one for ages and they were never as low as that. As long as all the functions work - I think you should go for it if you want one. If you pass on it, you will struggle to find one as cheap, I promise

That seller is always over priced. Just showing an example of the high end price, which is basically a mint watch. I'd go with the Z-33 myself, although I know not many dig it like I do!BBK357 wrote:??

That one is also priced high due to the engraving and quasi-issue status.JDC222 wrote:That seller is always over priced. Just showing an example of the high end price, which is basically a mint watch. I'd go with the Z-33 myself, although I know not many dig it like I do!BBK357 wrote:??

Re: Omega X-33 Gen 1... Thoughts??
I'd pass on this one and keep a lookout for a Gen 2 without any provenance and at a good price.
I understand the want for one... Ever since trying on the new Skywalker I've had a hard time getting it out of my head! I may have to suffice for the Gen 2 myself.

Looks like somebody grabbed it, or is in the process. Anyone here?
I still say this is a way better package deal and no headaches

Well it wasn't me..: my service / watchmakers availability being close to nil made me rethink this. Ohh well this is the life of a WiSer hehe

"That's a negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full."
I have had two friends regret buying first-generation X-33s due to main module issues (and subsequent parts availability). Anytime you buy something that looks to be a great deal ... it is not.
There will be others, Ricardo. Good luck and good hunting, mate.
