Inbound - Baume & Mercier Capeland MOA 10003

Post by jad3703 » Sat Mar 28, 2015 11:00 pm

So, while away on an extended bidness trip, I am buying watches (much to the Frau's chagrin and everlasting - I hope - patience).

Apart from the Ti Skyhawk from Paul (thanks, Brother), which I have always wanted to take for a spin, I just got this one. Literally brand new, complete in all respects, from a buddy back home in the still-Great White North. The Frau has agreed to receive and check it (luckily, she loves wearing my watches as much, if not more, than me), so all good on the home front ... at least this time.

So, here's the thing: why does Baume & Mercier seem to get no love on the second-hand market? It takes a pounding in terms of retail value (I got this one for almost a song). But from everything that I have read and seen regarding this brand, they make really solid watches, using high-quality components and paying attention to all of the details. Just no real love and I am not sure as to why? Any thoughts?

Anyway, looking forward to having a look at it, after it arrives chez nous and the Frau has a look at it.

Regards, James

That's a great looking watch. They take a beating second hand because they are available at enormous discounts brand new.

Ayup, that is true, Shorty. Not that I am going to complain, considering what I paid for it ... but I suspect that this will be a keeper, in any case.

Thanks, Kelly. I Agree but I think that Shorty's point is bang on.

Now the waiting game starts until I get home ...

Thanks, Hoppy. I think that this one will scratch the dressier Chrono itch.

I hope.

Thanks, Mike. I have not seen very many others out in the wild, so hoping that this one is unique in the Edmonton crowd.

Congrats James... Lots of under the radar brands out there that take a beating for no reason other than brand snobbery ... Wear it in good health.

Really don't know why either James. Guess Chris hit it on the nose like you said.
Either way though, their watches are beautiful, and extra cool. :headbang: ..This one you
are getting especially !

It has this amazing mix of sport, and elegance, with a vintage, yet modern side too.
Which is always such a terrific combination. ..Think you will really like this sir !

Thanks, Gents. Pretty happy with the watch and the deal. And surprisingly, so is the Frau, so all is well in my world ... for the most part ...

Nice pickup my friend! Yeah B&M does not get much love after the first sale, not sure why. I was just looking at a 10006 this past weekend but unlike the government, I cannot spend money I do not actually have...so I had to satisfy myself with window shopping.

I've never owned one but think the brand makes beautiful watches.

Nice, James. I'm looking forward to more photos.

Also, I see you are again sporting a Seal.

That's a beauty a little pricey but a beauty none the less. Couple places around here have them in the cases real eye catcher when window shopping as well.

Nice pickup, James. B&M, Longines, and Oris are all in that same bracket.

Doug, that has got to be one of the most legible "busy" dials I've ever seen. Get it...you know you want it... :poke:

Quite like that 10006, also. But I need to let things calm down back on the home front for a while ... LOL.

Tom, got the Seal a few months ago and have not regretted getting it back. Sweet piece and made for the kind of stuff that I am putting it through right now. And the Drew canvas just makes it even better.

The good thing is that the 10003 is basically new and I got it for less than 1/3 of the retail price. Should be a keeper and eminently affordable.

Okay, off to work.

Ciao, Gang. Stay safe.

You occasionally see various B&M watches on line from Jomashop or Ashford. Grey market but the discounts are big.

Congrats! I like the dial layout and color scheme. Someone already mentioned why so low in secondary market and I agree.
It's a beautiful world! Gerald.
