Tropical Cyclone Marcia
Tropical Cyclone Marcia
So this is happening right now in Queensland Australia.
TC Marcia
CATEGORY 5 (severe tropical cyclone)Extremely dangerous with widespread destruction.
A Category 5 cyclone's strongest winds are VERY DESTRUCTIVE winds with typical gusts over open flat land of more than 280 km/h.
These winds correspond to the highest category on the Beaufort scale, Beaufort 12 (Hurricane).
I am down in Brisbane, so we should be fine, just lots of rain here. Those further North like Rockhampton are gonna get pounded I think unfortunately.

Not sure Paul. Everybody up there has battened down the hatches I would hope.deepcdvr wrote:Donna's in rockhampton, no?
live news reports are not showing anything much apart from rain.
Hopefully it will run out of puff before it gets too wild.

Stay safe been through a typhoon when in the Navy all ways wondered why we had those seat belt type straps in the racks we sleep in to hold you in so you don't fall out when sleeping when going through a typhoon. No one was allowed on main deck it was so rough there no joke. Category 5 is the highest level ?
Re: Tropical Cyclone Marcia

Re: Tropical Cyclone Marcia
Hope everyone will be safe. My sister is in Sydney. Checking the map, it's less than an inch from Queensland.
Re: Tropical Cyclone Marcia
Scary shit. Stay safe guys.
Re: Tropical Cyclone Marcia
It is getting downgraded as it grinds down the coast. Potentially still very damaging to those more northern towns though.
Sydney might get some rain, but they are well away from this (it is a long inch away )

Re: Tropical Cyclone Marcia
Yea, you are not wrong. Some severe damage in Yepoon and down the coast from there.
Meanwhile, here in Brisbane we are still waiting for our share of the tail end of this probably tonight /tomorrow
Rain has slowed and it is really calm now at my house. Hopefully my roof wont leak later

Re: Tropical Cyclone Marcia
Yep lots of rain here, hoping the damage is minimal. Here in Brisbane the rain is slowing.
Re: Tropical Cyclone Marcia
Rain has stopped, and we barely got a breeze down here in Brisbane.
Many poor folks have lost their homes or have severe damage in Yepoon and Rockhampton area though (Cyclone crossed land in the Yepoon area at full Category 5 strength). Lots of flooding in central QLD, which will be ongoing for a few days at least.
Fortunately no loss of life or serious injuries that I have heard of.
All in all it could have been a lot worse.
