Nothing on recon

Post by deepcdvr » Wed Jan 21, 2015 5:04 pm

Just spent an hour on recon with 600 bucks to blow, and nothing tugged at my wallet ;(

Am I losing it or becoming a watch snob? Used to be, I could find something to buy and beat up in that price range in about 5 minutes lol

Watches are getting stupid expensive. You used to almost be able to get an Omega 2254 for around that much (maybe a grand or so). Now? Maybe a Seiko Tuna at best, or some bland shit micro at worst. I'd rather spend the money on something else.

That's just the aftermath of the CT GTG.

I agree on inflated pricing. Lots of attractive watches are sold out, and I usually can't stomach buying used for same price as new. Or more.

Grab the new Sumo. Another option, add a couple hundred and go Shogun. Fantastic watch for under a grand.

Unfortunately, other than Seiko, there just isn't anything under $1K that holds my interest at this point.

My sentiments exactly. Had about $700 sitting in my PayPal last month and was scoping recon for something that would catch my attention - never happened.

Seiko really is the only watch id look at in that range and truthfully, aside from the Sumo I own and love the only Seiko I'm interested in is a GS

Is the 017 and 015 the same, except for the bezel?

This is pretty nice for around that price range:

There's a bunch of other cool Hamiltons on recon at the moment around the same price range.

exact same watch, just different bezel insert, the 017 has a bead blasted shroud and one has a bracelet.

I wouldn't need a bracelet, but I'd prefer the 015 bezel.

I've thought about getting a Tuna back but the fact they have great resale means they're still too close to what I can get from Japan new.

For some strange reason I've been wanting something big, fun, and quirky and have been searching for a used Citizen Altrichon. Would be fun to take it hiking and camping.

This is the best answer under $1k.

I'd look at a Raven Deep Tech or 42, Benarus Moray, Lum-Tec, Bathys, Hamiltons, Helberg...

What about a Victorinox Inox? Been looking at them lately myself. Nice grab and go quartz.

I forgot about that one! I remember looking at them a month or so ago and being impressed. Still, nothing beats the 7c46 IMHO even if it's a couple hundred more. If I weren't such a bracelet guy i'd get the 017 and be done with it. It's such a great watch! Imagine the 7c46 in the Inox... Seiko knows that movement is testament of decades in flagship quartz engineering so it'll never happen outside the Tuna.

Vintage Seiko is another good search criteria. I keep looking for nice used pogues or bullheads that fall within the $600 mark but have never pulled the trigger yet. Need to educate myself more on them

Can one get the 015 bezel separately?

Paul - also have a look at the new Helberg Pilot watch. Great water resistance, screw crown, sapphire, runs a 9015. $299.
