New Ones (and a German Theme)

Post by matt.wu » Wed Nov 19, 2014 9:00 am

Well, if I'm going to hold tight with the "collection" for a bit, it might as well be with one that has been on the grail list for the longest time.

I've wanted a Datograph since I've been into watches. I used to think it was completely beyond reach, but then again I started off thinking I'd never be crazy enough to spend even $500 on an automatic watch. Over the years, you realize you've sunk way too much money into the "hobby", and if you consolidated, you can really reach for something else.

So here it is, and even with years and years of anticipation, it does not disappoint. Absolutely classic, the design completely appeals to me, the weight of platinum is great, the size works on the wrist, and of course, that movement....

Anyway, not too much to write up. It's been plenty praised over the years. Hey - it's Philippe Dufour's favorite watch. Is there anything else to say after that kind of resounding endorsement?

In a traditionally Swiss dominated industry, I'm really finding myself drawn to the clean and tight precision with which the Germans are producing some high quality, relatively underrated watches. So included a few shots with the Nomos Weltzeit, which is a new pickup as well. More on that one later.

Holy shit, man! That looks great! They both look great, actually. I'm a bit gobsmacked, if I'm honest. What an epic pair!

BTW- I can safely assume that the Lange is going to rule the roost for some time. If it's not asking too much, can you present your impressions of the Nomos first..?

That looks great Matt. I'm sorry I missed it. That Nomos looks like it has some long ass lugs though.

SO

EPIC!

Congrats on both Matt. The Datograph is of course awesome, but I also want to know about the Nomos, as I've been interested on that brand for some time.

Now track down a Simplicity. You already have a Nomos, a Lange and a Rolex.

Off the charts cool. Big congrats Matt!

Please do not put it on a nato. It would be a sin.
