Just in -- First Squale -- Boatload of pics

Post by Danny_T » Fri Nov 14, 2014 11:25 pm

Been on the fence for this watch for quite sometime. Regret not jumping on one when they went on sale direct from Squale online and of course they sold out pretty quick. Was lucky enough to find one on Ebay recently from an AD. I made my offer and after some back and forth, the rest you can say is history :)

May I introduce to you my Squale 50 Atmos (blue)

First impressions:

1. It's a small watch and not big at all. However I do like it because it adds variation to my collection and feels very good on the wrist.

2. The strap it comes with, although natural rubber and has the scent of vanilla, I don't like. Reason being it's 22mm notched to 20mm at the lug and tapers to 18mm at the buckle. Girly size and wrong colour for the blue in the watch. It`s basically the same strap design that my Seiko Monster come with. I think a NATO will look great on this watch (I don't have any 20mm ones so I will have to buy a couple) or a mesh bracelet would look equally good (which I have incoming from fellow Canuck).

3. 60 click bezel is not bad. Has a touch of back play when advancing it but once let go it's in place with no play or jiggle.

4. The blue dial/bezel/handset are absolutely beautiful and the polished case really adds a touch of class to the watch and can be easily dressed up. This is what sold me on this particular watch. Wanted a nice blue dial/bezel watch with orange minute hand. Went with this Squale due to the history and to add another dimension to my collection. Can't have large watches all the time.

5. The crown is a challenge to handle, but doable. If you got sausage fingers then you will be SOL.....but then again if you also have tree truck wrists this watch will be way to small for you.

Threw it on my timegrapher just prior to taking the pics below and it displayed a very respectable +5 to +7 sec per day with a beat error of 0.1 ms and 260-266 amplitude. I'm sure it'll improve after settling down after a bumpy ride with USPS. The watch was packaged very well BTW.

The best watch I can compare this to in my collection is my Seiko Monster. The dimensions and wearabilty of both watches are VERY similar as you can see in the pictures. So for those that are wondering how the Squale will look/feel and visualize its size, this would be the best comparo IMO.

Before you guys bust my balls, I don`t have any 20mm straps other than my 20mm dark blue and turquoise Isofranes and dark blue OEM Seiko Monster strap (pics below). Let me know your opinions on which of the 3 straps work best until I find or get someone to make the perfect strap for it, I think the best of the 3 options is the dark blue Isofrane. What do you guys think? Also any suggestions on what strap to get for it.

In closing, this watch is a keeper. I love the finish of this watch and love the look. Colours are smashing and with the right strap, It`ll put a smile on my face every time I look down at it.

Enjoy the slide show :)

That'll work. Congrats Danny. I prefer it on black Isofrane.

Congrats! I love the 50 Atmos, and have had basically every version except this one. And I only didn't get this one because it was never in stock when I had the money to buy one. I did find it to wear more like 40mm than 42, but for me that was fine. As for the strap, I actually like the vented, flared strap, which is made by Bonetto Cinturini, but I do not like the color of this one, and agree they could have matched the watch much better. Of your available options, I like the blue iso best. I'd probably just add a blue nato and call it a day.

Wow, I love this new matte blue dial. The sunray blue of the last version was nice but this is incredible. I hope it doesn't get discontinued. It's definitely on my list.

Thanks guys. It's a sweet piece. Yours looks great on that strap you got Stewart.

Gonna search for an orange ISO and a couple NATOS. I have a black 22mm Bonetto rubber that I'm gonna notch and try that out.

Cheer guys.

Oh and yea, the Turquiose and oem rubber are def stay in the strap drawers.

Beautiful watch Danny ! Man oh man, and the fit, and finish looks exceptional
as well. :salute: You really have to hand it to Squale. The way they are able
to remind you of the past, while being 100 % modern at the same time is just
the best. Love the unique blue, and everything about this one. Seems sporty,
but has a definite tool vibe going on also. What a get Danny !

Big congratulations here !

that is a great looking watch Danny, and I actually like the Seiko style strap on it or the black ISO. Oh and one other thing in the first pic with the Seiko style strap you have one side of the strap upside down. congrats

Haha I did realize that last night and was like WTF was I thinkin! The straps were just resting between the lugs anyways and no spring bar was in, so I slid it off right after the pics were taken. It's on the navy blue ISO for now until I get the perfect strap for it.

The strap was a $10 synthetic. I was quite pleased with it, but it started to fall apart after 3 days - seriously :banghead:

PS. Didn't realise yours was a matt blue dial - I like it A LOT
