I like it. They wear exceptionally well and I think it looks fine too.

to clarify, the allinghi (above) is the only AP I'm aware of that I don't like. disclosure: haven't seen it in the flesh.
to answer the question:
1-revolutionary case design
2-revolutionary adoption of and use of materials (not the first in all cases, but often the most refined implementation)
2-top tier in-house movements
3-impeccable finishing of all components
4-distinctive (see 1), so easily recognized as a luxury item
5-mega celebrity branding (see 4)
out of my league, but i'd hit the ss diver, the cf diver and the grand prix carbon chrono if it didn't stretch me financially
(pic obviously lifted from puristpro)

Absolutely SS Diver or Ceramic Diver I'd hit with the lights on. And other chronograph models they make are beautiful.

It's a halo watch made for people with crazy money. It's like owning an Enzo - a genuinely ugly car that's a showcase.

Usually a quiet reader but seeing that watch just made me spill my coffee. Those hands are beyond terrible...and that dial...man...I like the plain ROO and am a fan of the 15300/15400ST...this piece is just plain ugly!

I like the Star Trek hands on the subdials.

Dreamy, really, sort of like Captain Kirk.

You picked the worst one. I think it was an LE for a yacht race. I will say in person the big forged carbon case is cool in an industrial way, but the dial is butt. That said, the Schumacher, Beumi and other F1 models are the best interpretation of F1 in watches - Ti, carbon, ceramic - angular. I love them.

Also the dress watches are amazing.
"30ish years of martial arts and I've actually had the honor of training lots of LEO, spec ops and even SEAL team 6 on base, fitness training, not martial arts, but still the coolest thing I've done.

Full on egg head corporate job and I fly quite a bit so I'm really looking forward to adding to my collection of TSA friendly self defense tools. I have amcouple tactical pens, but I want to up the game and get into some custom stuff. Been watch obsessed for a while but this seems more fun.

Thanks for letting me play! "

Yeah, the Alinghi isnt the best looking ROO out there, but it's significant all the same for being the first watch to use AP's forged carbon material. It also has a specially modified movement for yacht timing.

IIRC, these were issued to AP's 2007 offshore yacht team (co-spinspired by Alinghi, naturally), with the reasoning being that their extreme light weight and high strength lent themselves to the sport.

Adam
