I have that Rolex model. I also have a less serious 1001 wristwatches that I picked up on the cheap as a coffee table book for my office. The clearance rack at Barnes and Noble clears them out from time to time.

The history of the Doxa Sub, "Doxa Sub Forty Years 1967 - 2007", is an excellent book for both coffee table presence and actual watch history. Fantastic photography.
Not to mention, some awesome contributors.

Check out Movement. It is incredible macro photography of high end movements.

A lot of great suggestions. Stewart, your Autavia book looks terrific.
I'll add that a pile of current and past manufacturer's catalogs are a great part of a small library. Lange, JLC, VC, and Breguet all publish beautiful ones. Some hardcover.

Guys, as always, DWC does not disappoint!!!!
Very cool Eric, you should get another Anonimo
Stewart, super cool to have some of your watches in the book! I've been reading about early Heuer watches... I may pick up that book!
Tom... equally awesome! So you're just behind Ernie in the credits?
Chris... also going to check your recommendation.

The Autavia book is awesome. There's also a Monaco book that's terrific as well.

Re: Any nice watch related "coffee table" books that you own
If you can find them (and afford them) there are books out there about the history of the Submariner (Rolex Submariner Story) and the Daytona (Rolex Daytona Story and Ultimate Rolex Daytona).
Re: Any nice watch related "coffee table" books that you own
Also, the standard Patek catalogue (which I assume you can get from an AD) is pretty cool.

Got my copy of Diving with Legends and an assortment of catalogs from Panerai, Omega, and one I filched from a Breitling AD.

-The Vintage Rolex Sport Models book is good for understanding the progression of Rolex models over the years.
-The Movement book has incredible photography
-The Goldberger Omega book is ok, but like all his books, the photos are all at the same angle and a little boring. No real text.
-The Autavia book is great
-The Hasslinger Heuer book is also great
-The Japanese/English Speedy books are good

Re: Any nice watch related "coffee table" books that you own
Thanks for the mini reviews David! I'll probably get the Rolex Sport Models book first as I'm starting to get an interest on their vintage models (specifically the SD 16600). I was also very interested in the Goldberger book, so I'll try to see one before deciding to buy it, as the cheapest I have found it is $80.10. Too bad you found that it had "no real text", based on what I've read of Goldberger, he's a true watch connoisseur.dshap wrote:-The Vintage Rolex Sport Models book is good for understanding the progression of Rolex models over the years.

Re: Any nice watch related "coffee table" books that you own
Great, have to hit the book stores now...
Here are the ones I enjoy the most:
Marco Richon: Omega - A Journey Trough Time
Fantastic book, works as a reference/guide, history lesson and as a just-wanna-drool-over-the pictures kinda book. It weighs in at around 9.5 pounds, so if you want to get rid of someone it works great as a cinderblock and cement substitute.
1000 pages of pictures of just about every Omega reference ever made. Every one is identified with the reference number and many with catalog pictures. Great stuff. From the diver section:
The Speedy section is awesome as well:
Didier Gottardini/Jean-Christophe Guyon: Vintage Watch Collection - Breitling
Collecting vintage Breitlings can be a pain in the butt. Often even the experts can be out to lunch when it comes to authenticity and originality. Richter's book is ok as a reference as long as you are aware of the frankens.
Gottardini and Guyon's book is way better, although not complete. But it covers the most interesting model series like Navitimer, Superocean, Unitime, Top Time, Co-pilot etc. And the pictures! Great stuff. All original specimens, but of course: a few of the watches has newer hands and a couple has been re-lumed. But hey, let's not get anal here.
Here's the start of the Navitimer section, which covers the Cosmonautes as well:
Yes, they did divers in their time, although they are mostly known for their chronos and pilot watches:
First generation Superocean, ca. 1962. Love the way they supplement the pictures with catalog pictures.
Oh, forgot: It's in french. But if you attended french classes in high school it makes an easy read. Really, it's low level stuff.
Well, those are my favorites (being your typical vintage Breitling/Omega whore).
