Sinn and disappointment

Post by BBK357 » Mon Sep 22, 2014 2:38 pm

My EZM1 had been gone for quite some time. Sent to the motherland this baby was getting a FULL service. Movement service and almost everything new- dial, hands, bezel, crown, crystal ......

Received today and it was beautiful in the service box. I even bought a brand new sel Ti bracelet for it from Sinn and they had it all ready for me to go.

Upon closer inspection I noticed that there is a black piece of lint/dirt on the minute hand. Ok ok... I'm not Hoppy so maybe I can look past this......
I set the time. Watch it for the first minute. Right on the mark. Great! Then like I've done before... To see just how accurate it is I pushed the chrono function as soon as my phone struck 12. Cool. Went to the computer to check out the new Fappening. Few minutes pass by....
Looked down at my watch. All hands stopped. Shook it, started back up. Ok a fluke. Nope. Now everytime I start the chrono function the whole watch stops and cannot start again until I stop the chrono.
Fully wound- shook up- crown cranked.... Sinn fu*^ed up.

I spent $150 on shipping and paid $54 in customs fees today when ups dropped it off.

Already sent an email to Sinn and told them I'm not paying shipping or customs fees.

Very sorry to hear this.

That is a nice EZM1.

And this is the exact reason I no longer own EZM1s no matter how much I love them - and how many I have had. The service is an F'in bitch to send to Germany.

Fappening has been banned.
If you have some, post those too.

PS Nice watch!

Talk about a kick in the teeth... You wait all that time and comes back in poor working order. I assume they will make it right but that's little consolation for having to wait another ___weeks to get that baby back :raised:

Just my observations, but it seems like Sinn service sucks ass.

Ack. Sorry to hear about the bad service. Makes me reluctant to send mine in even though they're due.

This is why I jettisoned my 6 year old U1000. It was running great but I knew eventually it would need to go back to Sinn.

It does sound like Sinn is outsourcing service to Kobold these days.

Sorry to hear it happens Ben, but it was karma for thinking of me like that. ;)

Sinn service will never get that bad. If that were the case, the crown would've pulled out when he went to set the time.

Honestly, I suspect maybe they are growing too fast and can't keep up with it. A US service center would be a huge help. Bremont figured this out in just a few years...not sure why it is taking Sinn so long (I'm not including RGM since they are so limited).

I don't think they can repair Ar equipped watches.

I hate to pile on but I doubt I'll buy another Sinn. I had to send a 757 UTC back to Germany. They didn't do everything I asked. Half was warranty work while I wanted a bezel insert change and they sent it back with the old one still installed. That was disappointing.

You know.... If it doesn't need any Sinn parts (dial, hands, crown) then I would be seriously tempted to send it to one of your regular watchmakers in the states.

Thanks Joe.

It was 4 months. I will be thrilled if they cover shipping and duty fees.

I've heard a lot of good from Sinn service when searching EZM 1 service especially on WUS.

What a bummer Ben. If Sinn doesn't make right, I'll give you $1000 for it.

I'm no Bremont lover, but they get the US luxury watch market 10,000% more than Sinn. Dealing with solid dealers beats dealing with WB all day every day. Internet only sales and no discount? Sounds great! :bs:

On edit: Ben has the worst luck with EZM1s. What did you do to earn such bad karma? To keep it constructive, consider putting your watch on a winder rather than hand winding. For whatever reason, my EZM1 winds much better that way.

Well, if misery loves company; I'm still waiting on my DC-67 to return from service needed to repair the previous service.

As much as I like Damasko designs, I'll never own another because of what you've experienced with that DC-67.

Yeah. I probably would have picked up one of the cheaper basic models as a wear everywhere watch, but I don't want to deal with servicing it in case it requires something Damasko specific.

You know I understand that but my EZM1 was running pretty good even though it was about 16 years old. I think sinn's will last a long time- it's just that stupid gas filling.
