Stopped at my local Oris AD today..

Post by PGERRITY » Mon Sep 15, 2014 11:26 am

I stopped in to my local watch place today and the owner brought this out. He said that there are only going to be 10 of the rose gold made and right now this is the only one in the country. Not sure if that's true but this is still a really good looking watch in person. Has a 10 day power reserve and an in-house movement. Tag was $17,500 but he said he had some wiggle room. Little out of my range....Sorry for the shitty pics! ImageImageImageImage

Unless the wiggle room would wiggle the price down to $5,000 I can't see even 10 people rushing to buy this one.

You'd be full retard to buy any tag over a couple grand.

Good (edit: GREAT) looking watch but anything more than a few grand on an Oris is throwing money away.

Is this one really an in-house movement?

Little bit of this.

I think that any brand can make an attempt to move to a different 'tier' which from my perspective is what Oris is doing here.

If JLC / IWC / etc came out with a new in-house movement with a 10 day reserve, I think the reaction would be :jerk: Because it's Oris the reaction is more WTF.

Not sure if that's an indictment of Oris, or an indictment of the snobby WIS.

I like it. Reminds me of the IWC 5001.

Real question, which movement is less in house?

Umm, the Oris is in-house in my understanding. Bremont is "co-developed" and "modified in-house" no? Nevermind the fact that Oris is a 100 year old Swiss company :)

doesn't seem like a crazy price for an in house 10 day reserve. Street price and used price may be manageable.

Yeah, I agree. I think it it's more the name associated with a $17,500 price tag that would hurt the sales on that one.

I think it's all about perception.
Remember Phaeton for 70K? I think they sold like 4 cars? Even though it was a hell of a ride

Phaetons are a hell of a deal on the used market. VW will reintroduce it in the US next year.

True. I brought up the Phaeton analogy in one of my past posts. You have to be careful when you try to take your badge upscale but
people associate it more with the mid-tier.

Agreed. I guess they could have bought a defunct brand name and launched this as a re-incarnation of it, as others have done

The watchworld is fickle, so much is perception or implied value based purely on brand recognition. :)

Watch itself is quite cool....

Assuming the SS model can be picked up for $3,500 or so on the pre-owned market, may be worth a look at some point. Looks like a nice movement.

"Taking your badge upscale"...can't say it any better than that...Lot's of options at $17,500 and Oris isn't one of them for me..
It's a nice watch for sure..Congrats to Oris on their in-house..

Whoa Pat, check that one out ! :o You must have been smiling ear to ear seeing
this in person like this. Love the classic looks of this one, and even how you
get a look at that movement there. You don't always think of this style of watch
when you think of Oris.

It's awesome ! Almost Hamilton-like. Thanks so much for the report, and look sir !
