Most under-rated
Had seen this over at Worn & Wound guys, and thought it might be interesting.
They ask about what might be the most under-rated watches, and come up with
various different watches.
What do you think about the different watches they came up with? Also what might
be some under-rated watches, or brands in your mind?
Here is the article...

Nice AT.
Having had the SKx, I think that's very much underrated too.
On their list, I like this

i've always been a fan of the polerouters. i don't wear a dressier watch enough to justify buying one, but i think they're pretty cool, nonetheless.

I was ready to add Squale till I saw it's already on the list. Definitely one of the underrated brands.

Re: Most under-rated
That's a pretty good list that could certainly go on and on.
I agree...the Seiko 6139 is very underrated indeed. It is an icon in more ways than one. And it is cool in so many ways from not only its history to the way you set the day and date. Internal bezel. Great look.
In addition, I'd add the Seiko 6105. You cannot tell how cool the 6105 is until you wear one. I found the 6309 to be much the same.
I think that the Tag Heuer Super Professional should be on that list. Such a remarkable watch. Unreal lume that you rarely hear about. Monocoque case. 1000 M durability without the HEV valve. Cool look. A steal in today's market at about a grand... if you can find a fully righteous one with all the lume pods.

Re: Most under-rated
I had a shot at buying one from Alistair at ATG when I first got into watch collecting. I passed due to the high price and small size. As a newbie I was digging giant micro watches for the jack, and Doxas and Omegas... all over 41mm. I could kick my ownself in my own ass for doing that. I think it would have lasted quite some time with me.gwells wrote:oh god, how could i forget the polerouter sub? those are a bitch to find tho. the polerouter dress watches are much easier to find.

Re: Most under-rated
That's a pretty solid list. I actually came out of that wanting the $40 Casio diver. On total cool factor the Polerouter wins by a long stretch.

Re: Most under-rated
Interesting watch. The standard appears small at 34mm or so but I found a couple other versions that use the same name. One was housed in a super compressor case and was almost 42mm.
only accurate watches are interesting

Re: Most under-rated
Underrated is a pretty subjective term. I thought it was a pretty good list. I noticed that one guy said Nomos and I agree with that but almost any German brand is underrated compared to most Swiss marques. Another writer added Seiko5 specifically but I'd say any Seiko through Grand Seiko is generally underrated too. As an outlier micro brand I think Armida is also underrated.AtomicTom wrote:What do you think about the different watches they came up with? Re: Most under-rated
It's tough because everyone will have different criteria for what 'underrated' means.
On the 'historical' side, I'm with TR on the 6309. It just works. Period. I'm sure if I owned the 6105 I'd feel the same way about it
For a modern watch, I'd say the Oris Titan C. Swiss (real Swiss, not some sorto of micro), Ti, Ceramic bezel and around $1000 in the used market.
Pics because
Honorary mention to the OS300 because it's better than a Rolex

Re: Most under-rated
The thrust of this thread, so far, seems to be on vintage classics. My post will be a little different. For as long as Deep Blue has been making watches, I have looked at the brand askance. I believed they were just an Asian junk brand. That changed to some extent when I purchased their Depthmaster II model with the Miyota 9015 movement. I can
not fault this watch in any way. It is attractive to look at, to me anyway, comfortable to wear and, given it size, I can read the dial from a mile away.
Maybe I just got lucky with my particular watch, but I have had zero quality control issues. If I had received a lemon, no doubt, I would be singing a different tune. As it is, I plan to spring for a Deep Blue Sea Ram, also with the 9015 movement some time soon. Here are a few pics of the Depthmaster II, one featuring my new baking powder submarine:
