Scandinavian Hooch help

Post by merichar » Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:17 pm

Was watching a show on the Travel Channel the other day. They were in Sweden and drinking some vodka laced with black licorice. Supposedly, its pretty popular in the Scandinavian countries. Anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, is it any good and how would I go about making it?

It's called Aquavit. You can buy it in the US, just look around your liquor store or buy online. And Aquavit is the type of liquor, not a brand name.

I think its a kind of shot(no aquavit though)i think i found it:

You just put wanted amount of licorice in a bottle of vodka, let it sit for about 2 days or until the licorice is "melted".Then serve

You can also buy the finished product: Hot'n Sweet Vodka Shot, comes in 70cl or 50cl bottles.

Good luck :puke:

Its vodka mixed with turkish peber (hard candy) shot is called salmari here and you can buy it from stores bottled. You can make it yourself also, the candy is crushed and dissolved. You can make it out of Fisherman fríends also. The idea is that you almost cant taste the alcohol, very sweet.

Thanks for the help-I'll see if I can find Acquavit, or the others at the liquor store. Even if they don't have it they can special order stuff sometimes. The drink on the show was homemade but seems like the same type you guys mentioned. If all else fails I'll try to make some at home.

You can infuse all types of stuff in vodka. Incase you decide to do it with licorice, make lemoncello while you're at it  .
