Buyer's remorse?
Did you ever buy something that you were not 100% positive about...
buy it anyway...
and realize you should have paid closer attention to your doubtful side?
Well, not too long ago I purchased something that I wish I didn't and was not able to return it to the seller.
Too recent to share the horrid details, but it's an awful feeling!

Re: Buyer's remorse?
I buy and sell a lot of stuff. Not just watches, but stuff. All sorts.
Once in a while I'll buy something only to be super disappointed in what I DIDN'T see in the pictures. I find that the flaw is usually there, I just got goo goo eyes and didn't see the trees through the forest.

It happens, nobody's perfect. So, you try and move it and move on.

Re: Buyer's remorse?
The IWC AT2000 I bought felt sorta like that, mainly cos it was an impulse buy and I traded my beloved Sub for it. I'm glad it all worked out in the end and Steven got it and I got the Doxa.
The Ploprof affair last weekend wasn't so much buyer's remorse but more of an "oh shit" moment. Still trying to figure out how many liters of my body fluids I have to sell to pay for it.
But damn, it is so worth it.

I will get back with details, but I was able to trade it for another piece.aikiman44 wrote:It happens, nobody's perfect. So, you try and move it and move on.
However, except for a few SNBC watches I got to look at and send back (no problem there),
this was my first remorse purchase from a private sale.

Re: Buyer's remorse?
Matt, that usually happens every time I hit the "make payment" button Mostly, it has to do with how I am going to explain said purchase to the wife, given that I failed to mention I was making the purchase before hand! I get over it with most stuff, but there have been a few where the new is gone before the package even arrives.

Re: Buyer's remorse?
I think most of the things we buy we dont really need. We definitly got a consuming culture on the go.
These days im packing for a move, going threw all of my crap and getting rid of it. It feels sooooooo good, most of it isnt needed.

You mean, like you a buy a watch, expecting something to knock your socks off only to find it leaves you wishing you could cancel the whole transaction?

Re: Buyer's remorse?
I don't think I've ever had buyer's remorse from the purchase of a watch. At least not in the traditional sense. It's more like a "Oh shit, the Skirt is gonna kill me and I'll be sleeping in the yard with this new watch" kind of remorse. If you notice, I usually tend to buy my watches in the summer and fall, before it gets too cold.

David, I think we all have zero sympathy for you when you say you're relegated to sleeping in your yard.DMB wrote:I don't think I've ever had buyer's remorse from the purchase of a watch. Re: Buyer's remorse?
I usually feel this way right after I make a purchase on something I've been on the fence about. It usually goes away as soon as the package arrives and my wanting is validated. Just did this with a watch I hemmed and hawed about for nearly 6 months. Its ugly but I love it just the same and the lume makes it look even better. And yes, John, its a SEIKOmattcantwin wrote:Did you ever buy something that you were not 100% positive about...

Re: Buyer's remorse?
Might as well share the details.
The remorse had nothing at all to do with the amount of money spent,
I am pretty much aware that I am on a financial downslide due to my watch addiction.
The watch purchase I regretted is a D. Freemont Barcelona with 7751 movement. A very beautiful watch, with great complications and a wonderful porcelain dial.
Here is a picture from the seller.
However, it is only 38mm and that is a lot to see on a dial that size.
My reluctance was in purchasing a watch that size.
Turns out, it was too hard for me to read the dial and distinguish the time easily.
I have seen several people post about what a great guy Dave Freemont is and I have to agree!
I got in touch with him and discussed my concerns and he allowed me to send him the watch (and a bit of money) in return for another of his beautiful pieces.
I chose the Santorini, a hand wound mechanical, which at 42mm is a better size for my eyes and an easier dial to read.
Here is a picture from his site.
The case is stainless steel which goes through a hardening process that gives it a unique color.
The Santorini should arrive early next week and all will be better in Matt's Wis World.

Re: Buyer's remorse?
D. Freemont sounds like a really great guy. Sounds like things worked out just about as well as they could have.
Re: Buyer's remorse?
Only did it once.It was just to large for my wrist I know you forum members like large watches I had to try it once.I traded it the only trade I ever did on a forum. It was about the same value so I did not lose on it.What movement in the handwind one you are now getting it has a older design like from the 1940's.And neat looking hands.I know about the eye site I now use glasses.
Re: Buyer's remorse?
I trade watches so much that I don't even let the 'uh oh' feeling sink in. If I don't like the watch, I usually clean it up so that it is better than when I received it and box it right back up. Then start 'trolling' for a trade.

Re: Buyer's remorse?
I once bought a really beautiful Speedmaster.
It was the kind with white gold bezel and moonphase...
I just couldn't SEE the sub-dials, tiny little boogers!
If only I'd given into bi-focals prior...

Yes 38mm would have had me kicking myself too.
