Good call Ed. That Ranger is a $2k watch at best. The BBB is another story though.

Speaking of watches worth $2k - I'll give you that for the Kobold and you can have some spending money for whatever it is you think you want :stir:

Bummer to hear about the Ranger. I'm sure the movement is very good, but I agree with others - there's something about it that leaves me flat (at least from the pics I've seen).

I wanted to like it by description but I agree it's a little underwhelming.

I use a simple test when I start being affected by the hype - would I buy this watch if it were a Seiko.
I walked away from a lot of watches with this test and Ranger is one of them.

That's pretty insightful. I might have to start using that trick myself.

That sounds like a decent pre-purchase test. In the case of the Ranger; Would I buy it if it were a Seiko? YES! Provided it were a $500 Seiko

I'm sure the Ranger has its fans seeking a classic military look but I find it just generic and boring. Unless you desire the branding (and are willing to pay the price for it), there are plenty of similar options from Timex through Seiko on up.
only accurate watches are interesting

Frankly - and Pelagos owners are gonna hate me - I think the Pelagos also looks much better in photos. The difference is the Pelagos is still pretty cool in person (just BETTER in pics). Plus its titanium, cool clasp, ceramic bezel. Unique. Ranger, not so much.

The Ranger kind of reminds me of the Hamilton Khaki Field watches

That sucks because I love it on this pic and would definitely consider it even if it's close in looks to my Bathys on some ways

While specs suggest it would wear the same as a Bathys, the Ranger seemed smaller to me. I also think the Bathys looks better in person. The Tudor wins in the crown department.

I wish Hamilton made a no-date field watch, around 42-44 mm please.

Alternately, a Glycine Incursore 44mm no-date would also be fine.

Date windows generally ruin a watch IMO.

I love the Bathys, to me it'll be hard to beat, especially considering the $.
I talked to John and told him about the crown and he said he'd look at that for the next release

A 100F with drilled lugs and big crown would have me standing in line.

I'm still all hot and bothered by the Ranger, but maybe I'll need to see it in person first
