What happens if you remove the seconds hand from a watch?

Post by matt.wu » Wed Dec 09, 2009 4:49 pm

Sometimes, I don't care for the specificity of a seconds hand and would prefer the simplicity of a 2-handed watch (ala PAM base dials). If I were to remove the seconds hand from a movement like the ETA 2892, should I expect any adverse effect?

TIA. :fro:

i dont see why not, all it would do is spin the little tube in the center, as if it had a seconds nad. My buddy Diaboliq does it to his quartz watches often, no adverse effects he ever experienced.

which watch you planning on doing this to?

Sometimes, having no seconds hand makes me a little less anal about timekeeping. It's sort of relaxing in a way.

I'm thinking about removing the seconds hand on the Soarway Diver. It's got such a clean dial already, seems fitting to make it a two-hander. Still debating...

No need second hand

Like another fellow said the little pin in the watch just keeps turning ...
But like Panies with no Second hand you can get a little cap for the second pin it makes the watch look cleaner and might just keep dust out of the pin tube

Q. What happens if you remove the seconds hand from a watch?

A. You become a Zen master, who stops fussing with all that silly COSC-ness in the world.

Your watch reverts to a 15th century timekeeping device.
May as well start using a quadrant for longitude.

For the first 2 hours ....

For the first 2 hours your always looking at the watch to see if it is running, after than you just use it to tell the time ...no slide rule needed

It's sort of relaxing in a way.

 You could relax even more if you remove the minute hand.

Take off the hour hand and you might as well be in a coma.
