Dammit.... no Pelagos for me.

Post by hoppes-no9 » Sun Dec 22, 2013 11:35 am

I really like the look of the Pelagos. REALLY like it. The photos online are stunning. And the reviews are awesome.

Most of my watches were purchased without my ever seeing them in the flesh, and I've only been disappointed a couple of times. Like a Doxa 1200T and a 42mm Ingenieur that were both way too small in person, and were promptly exchanged for a 5000T and Plastiki respectively.

My only nagging concern about the Pelagos was the titanium. I like heavy watches, but have never handled a titanium watch. I thought, how light can that thing be? And even if it is light, I'll probably still love it, right?

Well, I didn't. A local AD has a Pelagos in stock, and I knew the moment I picked it up that it just wasn't for me.

Oh well, I'm VERY disappointed, but it's not like I have a spare $4K laying around needing to be spent.

Damn.

I used to be a hefty watch guy, not any longer. Ever since I bought my first TI watch
Several years ago I never looked back. Give it some time and you'll adjust.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet and saved yourself from being disappointed.

Much better than getting it and having buyer's remorse...

No offense to the Pelagosi here but I was disappointed with the watch in the metal too. It looks fantastic in photos but it just didn't do it for me once I tried it on. I like watches with a bit of heft and also found it's light weight a bit off-putting. But every time I see it in photos I think I must be crazy

No one seems to taking Brice's needs into account here.

Full on egg head corporate job and I fly quite a bit so I'm really looking forward to adding to my collection of TSA friendly self defense tools. I have amcouple tactical pens, but I want to up the game and get into some custom stuff. Been watch obsessed for a while but this seems more fun.

Thanks for letting me play! "

My only 'heavy' watch is my OS 300. I prefer a bit lighter watches generally. But, the key thing is that you found out that it probably won't work for you. And thereby you saved Brice from buying your Pelagos when you flip it, and robbed us all of a bit of humour ;)

Personally I love Ti watches, but it's good that you found out the watch wasn't for you before buying.

The average ownership time is only two weeks that's how long mine lasted! You've saved yourself the bother of selling it!Image

Love this damn watch!

Glad you saved yourself some money. Same thing happened with me on several occasions

In this case, though, the big P pushes all my buttons

You see, it's photos like this that make me think I'm nuts for not loving this watch.

In my opinion some watches don't work in Ti because it's out of character and just not right.
However Pelagos is perfect in Ti, I can't imagine Pelagos in SS, it'd just be another Sub wannabe with ETA movement.

Hi

You either like the feel of a Titanium watch or you don't. Havering said that, tastes change over time so you never know! I have some titanium Seikos which Love but also a steel GS SBGE001 which is one of my favourites.

The Pelagos is a classy but classless watch you can wear anywhere. I really enjoy mine.

I've had lots of heavy watches (Doxa, UTS) and I still have several but I don't find the Pelagos, or my Pam 177 to be too light. I'm sure you'd quickly get used to it, but if it didn't feel right, you probably did the best thing in walking away.

It's more money, but do you have a 16600 Sea Dweller?

After several of you guys suggested this, I've been thinking about it.

If the 42mm Inge (I assume the Ref 3227) was too small for you, the SD 16600 is going to feel like a toy in comparison. Most definitely try that one before you buy it.

Tudor really nailed it with the Pelagos. The size, its weight, the bracelet, are all spot on. It looks terrific on that strap too.

My only desire is for it to have a 120-click bezel. Then it would be perfect. $200 Seiko divers have them.

May I ask why? Being a desk diver (read: fake diver) that I am, and never rotate bezels on any of my watches but maybe twice a year, why does it matter how many clicks are there? Just curious.
