The little known Seiko 399K

Post by Heuerville » Thu Feb 06, 2014 11:07 am

I've had this Seiko for ages.. and it's apparently a bit of a 'unknown' Diver. I don't think it's particularly rare, but as far as I know, it's not seen that often.

On first looks, it looks like any other 7s26-0020 200m diver.. but it has metal edged lume, which really pops in the right light. I think there are some other differences, but you'll have to forgive me, I'm no Seiko specialist.
The upshot is that it is some sort of Singapore, or Asia market only watch.. I can't remember the details, please pitch in if you know!

Anyway.. I dug it out to try it on an orange zulu I just bought.. and it's a superb match (IMHO)..
Oh, and the crown doesn't screw down against the case, I need to get this sorted. Anyone know why this might be?

Really nice looking and in great condition. Looks like the 7002. If its the 7002-7000 or 7001 it's the japan of non-us version. If it's the 7002-7009 it's the US version. There was also a pepsi version/s. I think they are from the 90's? Not really a seiko expert either...

The SKX399 is for the Philippines, I believe. Nice dial, and definitely worth fixing.

What a match Stewart, and check out how it plays off the orange in the "Diver's 200m" on the dial.
Not sure why it's not screwing down correctly though. Looks fantastic though !

Thanks for digging it out, and showing it to us.

Thanks Tom,
You're right.. it plays off the Diver text. Funny thing is, I've had this watch a long time and never properly worn it.. I've been meaning to get the crown fixed for years... maybe 5 years.. and it's sat doing nothing for most of that - and it's been keeping perfect time all evening!! Gotta love Seiko for robustness!

The orange strap makes it a completely different watch.. on black etc it looks dull.. also.. I've been considering butchering the zulu and making it into a normal strap, kinda leather lined with the zulu as top surface!

Hopefully the crown only has to replaced. If so I might have one laying around but I will have to check first.

Either way that is definitely one good looking watch!

VERY nice! It is a very unique dial indeed. I've got a 7002-7039 and the dial is not nearly as exciting.

On another note, if it is the tube that's stripped, I don't know what goes into replacing it -- or if it's worth it. This might be an easier route if the cases are the same (and they look to be).

Thanks for that Chévere, VERY useful indeed

Terry - thanks for your offer of help too, VERY kind of you.

I'll get the seiko to my watch guy and see what the issue is.

Does it screw down, just not all the way? I'm looking at my 007 model and it appears there is a tiny gap between the case and crown when it's screwed down.

there should be a little gap due to the gasket seating against the crown tube.

but Stewie has a solution if things don't work out with it since I have a few parts laying around (I think Cesar even gave me some parts also  ).

hopefully the gasket is just focked up and is keeping it from screwing all the way down

Damn I love those clean, cool Seiko divers. Using little makes for so much more. LOVE applied, metal surround indices. I hope you get her fixed up in fine fashion. If anyone knows their Seiko, it is Cesar and Terry.

I'd recommend the oem lightweight one, comfortable and vintage feeling and can be had for less than $35 new.

Heath is right the light weight has a great vintage feel to it. You just need to adjust the endlinks sometimes to keep them from rattling.

This bracelet is a little more solid here http://www.thedivewatchconnection.com/f ... let+rattle

But if you want the BOR feel than the yobokies version with a taper would be the best but it isn't light like the oem style version.

If you need some pics on how to adjust the endlinks I can send you some if need be.
