What are your 'keepers'

Post by deepcdvr » Wed Jul 03, 2013 7:08 pm

Ok, so I've been through a net BILLION watches in the last few years - well, maybe a few less, but not many.

I had decided that I only had two real 'keepers', ie watches that I will never part with. They are:

My M series sub

Image

and my U1

Image

I'm still trying to decide about this one

But I've added another PERMANENT piece to the pile. I've owned this one a couple of times before and it didn't stick. This time - it's made the cut. Any guesses?

Drum roll please.....

Yep, the perfectly designed, coolest watch on the planet...lol... the Speedmaster Professional. As watches come and go, lately, I just can't seem to keep this one off the wrist for very long. Love it! Even though I can't dive deep with it, will probably shatter the crystal at some point, it has no date, etc... it is just smooooth as butter.

Anyway, what are your KEEPERS?

The U1000S has had some staying power, but this is the only one I am fairly positive will never leave.

All of my watches are keepers except for micro brands.
Somehow I never got attached to them, yes they look cool for a minute but lack soul.
I'm thinking about dumping all of them soon.

Sounds crazy but I honestly couldn't currently imagine parting with any of my watches. But if I had to choose 'guaranteed' keepers it would have to be my PAM 111 (gift from my wife, but I love the watch regardless), my PAM 190, and my Sinn 156 Military. Hmm, add the Heuer Autavia 1163MH to that list too. Oh, and the Sinn 156 Military. Crap...

Ok, I'll play along. MM 300 is probably it. A secondary category would be "What do you flip and then replace?" I have either sold or given away half a dozen SKX007's and four 6309's, and at least four Marina Militares. Besides the Marinemaster, I have an SKX007, a 6309, and Marina 111 clone on the nightstand right now.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

I am to the point where perhaps only 1 of 10 watches that come in makes a legit play for a long term seat in the watch box. KeeperS? Probably the Doxa 600t Pro and older Sub No Date, and perhaps the SubC. But a case could be made for the 1665 and 1680 as well and even the BPFF, Pam 106 and JLC NSA. Those are the core and have been for a while, and absent a real need to sell those pieces the others in the collection and those that come in and out are more just part of the try it and flip it madness.

Omega SMP, G-Shock froggy and a Suunto Vector have all been around a long time. Maybe Rolex Seadweller if it ever returns

My PAM 170 is the only truly untouchable piece (lots of sentimental significance)...though there are several, like my NSA and Autavia that would be REALLY hard to part with.

None so far, with the exception of my fathers ; watches. Those I will not part with.

But of I ever have the dough for a Pam, Rolex or the like, I honestly can't say keepers on those either.
Anything but my fathers watches is fair game.
Always something new I see I want, and sometimes old ones will get sacrificed.

I currently have 9 watches.

I am reluctant to call any of them keepers, but mattcantkeepwatches figures these two as the most likely candidates.

Keepers for me would be ones that are difficult to replace.

Tudor Monte Carlo...

Doxa Black Lung...

Seiko 6309. Difficult to replace for sentimental reasons...

Everything else is at risk.

My speedy pro is the only one. Was given to me by my wife and probably the coolest watch ever. Have an incoming that just may be a keeper

I would have said the Speedmaster but it's gone. Again. Will probably have a 3rd one eventually.
However, now that the roof project is complete, I have a few coming in that will tryout for along term position, if not then I'm sure there will others that will audition.
