$1000 G-shock?

Post by deepcdvr » Wed Feb 13, 2013 10:59 pm

I have a pile of G's. REALLY dig them and I'm actually a bit of a G-shock freak. Can't pass them up when I go to the Navy exchange. Anyway, a thousand bucks for a frogman??

Either typo or baller G. I don't know.

I'd just like a lazy $1K to throw around at the moment. Instead of my wife saying $14K for the f'ing landscaping around the pool, 'that sounds reasonable' :banghead:

I love Gs and miss the myriad of Froggies and Gs that have passed through my hands. They are great overseaas deployment watches, quite frankly. Have to get another one at some point.

But $1K for Froggie does seem a wee bit ... excessive.

It's priced to sell too...

Maybe you have not seen the most recent G-Shocks, the Aviation series for example MSRP over $500 and some other bad ass PRX or something close to $2000... Not sure what Casio is thinking. The watches are nice, at least to me, but the prices are a little on the high side... Maybe they want to compete with Rolex or Blancpain...

It's totally reasonable. I'm going to ask $1650 for mine.

That's crazy. I've had a couple of G's... nothing more than $100 bucks.

I don't get G's with high pricing. They are molded plastic and digital... and made by the thousands. I don't get the pricing.

G's have a cult following. There are those who will pay that price just because its a limited edition or has some sort of unique color or feature. Same thing for folks who are into sneakers - limited editions in certain brands can go for insane amounts of money.

That's the best line ever. Priced to sell. As opposed to "priced so it won't sell." Which happens unintentionally, I imagine.

I've found that often 'priced to sell' really mean 'not at all priced to sell, but let me try to fool you into thinking it is'

:)

This particular Froggie is a special edition that was released in 2009; one of its claims to fame is the use of rose gold in the screws and the "eye" on the display. Not sure how many were made, but believe it or not, this price ain't all that bad, particularly when you consider that a LNIB black Dee and Ricky goes for over a grand and those were selling for under $130 when they were released.

Regards,
Adam

PS - Looks like he doesn't have the proper box, which might explain why it's so cheap (these can go for up to $1500).

Run of the mill Froggies are not cheap to start with $300 + is not particularly unusual. Wearing one now its my go to work watch.

Oh yeah, the seller is also a Red Bar member and well known 'risti; this sale is legit, never mind that I'd never pay $1000+ for a G-Shock.

 Holy cow ! ..That's up there ! I'm sure someone will eventually pick
it up though since it's a limited edition like everyone is saying.

Canadian $ has been above the US $ for a fair bit in the last few years. Right now it's around 99.xx cents US, so you're not saving much ;)

Adam: Even if some folks would pay that, for me, a G-shock should be < $200 at all times :D

There are definitely a couple of Gs that I'd pay real money for (a GW-5000, Brazilian Froggie, Carbon Fiber Froggie...), but for the most part, yeah, it's kinda hard to get around the fact that these are, for the most part, plastic watches (fine, the screwbacks are actually all-metal underneath, but still).

But hey, if it holds its value, or even has the promise of going up, then what's the problem, right?

So the name "G-Shock" is appropriate. 1000 bucks and it's shocking.

I can appreciate the craftsmanship in a grand Seiko. Gshock is different.
