Did you miss me?
I realize that I have not graced the forum much in the last year, but that does not mean that I have forgotten you. In all truth, I had actually forgotten you but I was bored on the flight from Dubai so I did a little light reading on your forum.
It appears that the DWC has moved up a few notches with respect to serious timepieces. The last time I was here, the Panerai craze was in full swing. And, like I stated (the last time I was here) "it would eventually pass". I have made my opinion known insofar as Panerai is concerned, so there is really no need to rehash all that is fashionista.
I simply love the growing forum collection of modern Rolex watches. There are more than a few superb vintage examples here as well. It's so nice to see what is perhaps the most classic of all brands still thriving in a sea of garish, ridiculously proportioned junk (for lack of a better word).
Additionally, the Blancpains, JLCs, APs, and Pateks are nothing short of stunning. Bravo DWC, bravo.
Lastly, the DWC has quite the collection of superb vintage pieces as well. This is a direction that I personally have migrated towards in the last year.
Which brings me to the rest of the offerings ...
Seiko - Sorry, but at the end of the day it is a Seiko. No matter the cost or complication.
Sinn - I have mixed feelings when it comes to Sinn. While it is every bit as pedestrian as any other ETA powered watch, the brand does serve a purpose and fills the "tool watch" niche rather effectively, with it's submarine steel cases and tegimented bezels. In short, a Seiko with class. Internet watch forum commandos everywhere now have the perfect timepiece to "rig out" on a Nato strap, knowing that they can mow their suburban lawns and their "tactical beater" will survive the mission.
Ennebi Fondale - When Panerai isn't ugly or cheesy enough.... there is Ennebi. Bronze cases and skull pips. What more can you ask for in an extra extra large watch?
Breitling - I can only hope it is simply that "first nice watch" a neophyte enthusiast buys and once a little horological knowledge is gained it will be that "recently sold first nice watch".
Assorted boutique brands - I can never understand why someone would throw away money on a cobbled together timepiece of questionable origin, that in a short span of years will be worth virtually nothing.
Well good people, that is all I have for now. It's time to retire to the pool and a few more martinis before a rather boring dinner party hosted by my father this evening. Cheers - Potter
