What to do with a beater?
So I've got this watch that I literally NEVER wear but it deserves to be by someone. This isn't a for sale post, just a rumination. I got this watch in my pre-WIS days at the Louis Pion store on the Champs d'Elysee in Paris while there on business. I liked the look of it. Anyway, it got worn for a year or so, then I gave it to my dad, who beat the hell out of it. The mineral crystal is scratched up and the case is pretty rough too. It's got a cool dial and handset and has the same Swiss quartz chrono movement that TAG Heuer uses in the Formula 1 chrono, accurate timing to 1/10th of a second.
It's not really sellable in its current condition, nor would I impose such a beater on anyone for free that I know. I've thought of having the crystal replaced but then again, I won't ever wear it.
So it sits in my watch box, ticking away dutifully. Any creative ideas on what to do with it?

Something that includes incendiary devices.
Or maybe something simpler like the 'penny is soda' thing. Let it sit for a few months in some Coke

Ah, a torture test.... not a bad idea. Or maybe it's a watch I just keep in my toolbox or travel shaving kit as a backup. It bugs me to see it sitting here ticking for months on end without use. But I don't like it enough to wear it.ElChingon7 wrote:Something that includes incendiary devices.

You ride a bike right? How about strap it to the bars. Looks like a nice easy to read dial.suddha wrote:Ah, a torture test.... not a bad idea. Suggestions? It's quartz, remember, so freezing or boiling probably will kill it.userfriendly wrote:Did someone say torture test?

I want a quartz chrono to put in my van, get some analog time on the go, would be good for timing trips too. It may be a good idea.
A endurance/torture video would be fun .

We did have a thread going before the new site, killing some watches, maybe this is a good time to restart it?

I do remember someone was going to get his .223 going, and kill a watch. If you have something like that, perhaps.........
