What if

Post by River Rat » Wed Jun 20, 2012 7:26 am

From what I read on the net the Bulova was competing the Accutron Astronaut against the Omega Speedmaster for the NASA contract. What if the Accutron Astronaut would of got the contract were would Bulova be today would they be a stronger watch co a more wanted brand with the likes of Omega.I know the Speedmaster a better watch but I think Bulova would be a different watch co today.

Ah well, there is a Bulova timer on the Moon right now, left there by Armstrong and Aldrin. I believe the US government went to some lengths to persuade NASA to issue Bulova watches for the Apollo missions.

Very interesting question, Mike.

I consider Bulova still to be a very strong player with potential not yet tapped. They have the ability to put out some great stuff. They went a bit too far into the cheaper stuff for their market, as opposed to Omega who went much stronger upscale.

However, I think the Speedy won for a reason. It is a superior watch.

As per Roar... Omega, FTW!

The Bulova of today is not affiliated with the Bulova of days gone by, Citizen is the parent company.

Bullova coulda been a contender.

But not with the accutron. Too fragile.

The clocks in the Command module and LEM were Bullova Accutrons.

The Speedie is just so tough though.

Omega rocked so much in those days. My favourite watch, the Flightmaster from 1969 (which I have) is an absolute corker, way above anything (IMHO) which Bulova have ever produced.

From the design to the build.. it's a lovely piece.

Though I have been looking at some great vintage 666 Bulova divers this week.. I will admit.. great vintage pieces.

I think Omega won because they gave NASA a better deal.
