Sniff, Sniff (a moment of silence please)

Post by vbuskirk » Tue May 08, 2012 6:55 pm

   My 70yr old Stowa stopped ticking at 8:13 this morning. I contacted Stowa way back when, and they confirmed the authenticity, but refused to work on it. Sigh. (Doxa jr?)

Any suggestions for "the right" watchmaker? It needs a little restoration work, since for example there is a paneling nail holding the swinging caseback arm closed. Definitely no water resistance on this model! ;)

Maybe try Jay at MCWW or Jack at IWW. Watch looks awesome and I'm sure someone can help you out.

The Stowa of today has nothing to do with the Stowa of 70 years ago. Jorg Schauer bought the rights to the name several years ago.

Sorry to hear that Chris. Makes sure you research a good place to send it, that's worth getting done right.

Ah....that explains it...
So , like Ball, Doxa, Aquadive, etc...another to add to the list of using past heritage and name to promote the product.

While technically true, I consider Jorg more of a true caretaker who seeks to uphold, and improve upon, the legacy of the past.

I didnt meant to imply anything there. The way Steven put it, was like it was just another company trying to use the past to sell the brand. I did not know that Stowa was not owned by the same people it was years ago.......from all the Stowa products I have seen they are top notch, so was not trying to downgrade the company at all.

No worries, it's easy to be cynical (see DOXA) when old brands have newer owners. I know I am at times. Just wanted to give Jorg his props for doing it the right way.

Yeah. Grew up on Where The Wild Things Are, read it to my son, etc.

Anyway, enough of the thread jack...
Fantastic looking piece, Chris. Hope you can find someone to get it up and running again.

Call Hans Mueller in Houston. He is working on a 1940 Universal Geneve for me.
