The State of Your Collection

Post by FlyPenFly » Sat Nov 26, 2011 6:18 am

It's that time again...

What's in the watch box, on the wrist, at the shop, and on the way out? What's possibly incoming?

For me, I have:

Bremont ALT-1C Cream Dial
Bremont U2 DLC
IWC Aquatimer Vintage Edition
IWC Portuguese Chronograph Panda

Not sure what will be on the way out. I've been pondering more and more about finally ending this marathon and picking up that $10,000 Blancpain Fifty Fathoms new. That would of course mean I sell everything except 1 of the above, probably the only dress watch of the above. It seems Blancpain is looking more and more like a one hit wonder since their rebirth. Can anyone name a new Blancpain they really want besides the classic FF?

It is hard to reconcile that at $10,000, I'm well into Vacheron Titanium Chrono territory. A watch I've always wanted as well. Heck, in that territory now Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks are in spitting distance.

The standard edition Aegir has also been piquing my interest. A bang up job and the first high priced micro in a while to really get me interested. And as many Red Bar patrons know, I've been hankering for a bubble crystal pepsi GMT for a good year or two now. What about that Reverso Sun Moon I'm always yammering about.

Is the race finally over? I'll have to decide over another life milestone next week if I'm packing it in for now.

Sticking to the 1 watch routine. Getting weak though-craving a Sea Dweller or Explorer/Omega PO new or old not sure-and its getting stronger everyday. Bshap's latest IWC has me interested as well so I have to bone up on IWC models.

I pretty much sold everything, so there's isn't much of a "collection" to speak of these days.

I don't know what's next, but I'm starting to bet bored looking at the same stuff over and over again. I'm thinking about going vintage in order to get some more unique pieces.

And I have to buy the next IWC 3227 that hits the sales corner.

Just got a BP FF in a couple of weeks ago, and it's making me very happy. I still want the PAM 372, and then I have to be done for a while. I'm going to impose a one-in one-out policy just to keep things in check. Apart from my Sinn U1 I just don't see anything in the collection that is chopping block worthy, and my U1 has more sentimental value to me than any of my other pieces. If push came to shove, I think I'd sell my 243, but that would have to be for something really special.

You know, I just had a great idea.

Let's go over Adam's collection and figure out what he should do. I totally called his misadventure into Linde Werlin and that both he and Luke would be selling theirs in no time.

What does he have now...

AP Diver
IWC Top Gun Ceramic Doppel
IWC Ingenieur 3227
Rolex Deep Sea
Rolex Sub of some kind
Incoming Prescher Aegir
JLC Vintage Alarm thingy
JLC Vintage Reverso Classic thingy
JLC Navy Seal somesuch diver alarm NSA CIA DEA ATF FBI Homeland Security

Sell it all, buy an A. Lange & Sohne so you can compete with Pav. Or at least pick up a Japan edition IWC.

I'm terrible at group shots, but here's my little lot

Nothing I want to sell right now & very few planned purchases - but I'm susceptible to temptation.

I have a one in, one out policy as well.
Here's what I have.

Breitling Steelfish

Magrette Bronze

Bathys 100F Auto

And another winging it's way in from the west coast

I'm not really interested in anything out there, but that's not to say that I will buy and flip another dozen watches next year.

The 3227 was a huge step in the right direction for my collection.

Right now I've got:
IWC 3227
IWC 3717
Seiko 6105 (1970)
Doxa 750t pro

Im moving the doxa but I'm not sure if I'll replace it right away. On the hitlist is a dweller and zenith striking 10 but it'll take a year to have a shot at either. There's lots of vintage pieces I like as well but I haven't given it too much thought yet. Still very much in the honeymoon stage with the Ingy.

Here is the collection to date:

Looking to add something soon...
Rolex EXP II
Rolex GMT II-C
JLC NSA Auto (42)

or a Chrono:

Zenith El Primero Striking 10th
JLC MC Chrono
Bremont Alt1-C

Can't honestly decide....

Here are the two poor bathroom pics of the watch boxes as of this morning. One is now for sale and a couple others are close to being for sale (sadly I do consider it progress that the Timex has a slot again). Still have a couple watches on the brain, including AP Diver, Sub C, vintage Rolex SD, Rolex Red Sub, PAM 183, PAM 243 and some form of UN diver. I think I have cooled on the JLC Navy Seals Auto for now (more because of the price than the watch), but who knows. Goal right now is to sell 2 to 3 for every 1 that comes in.

You forgot the Sinn U1000 S (which you also predicted I'd sell), a couple of vintage Omega Seamaster De Villes (one being a nice Tiffany dial), a vintage Doxa and a gaggle of G-Shocks. On the incoming side, in addition to the CD-2 LE, there's also the PAM 372, Sinn EZM10 and PP Nautilus. I'm also keeping a casual eye out for a blue Tudor Snowflake and I certainly wouldn't say no to Luke's Japan tribute Big Pilot (however, I have it on good authority that some new Pilot-type stuff'll be landing at Basel, so now that I've landed the Top Gun I'm gonna sit tight... )

Otherwise, there ain't a whole lot out there that's pushing my buttons, ya know?

Oh, and no Langes (unless it's a Zeitwerk Luminous) -- waaaaaay too rich for my blood.

Regards,
Adam

PS - I must say that I'm ridiculously excited for the CD-2 LE; I can't wait for folks to start posting up pics and opinions of their standard versions. Jae, you really ought to drop Todd a line...

Gone the way of the ghost, Ben Jammin'. It got caught in the gears of my JLC binge ($20K+ on the CC card for the wife to see will make a man do desperate things -- gotta save my mom for the Nautilus...).

Wow you got the EZM10 and the Nautilus? Someone has a watch problem.

That U1000S is definitely going. IIRC, playing with the crown, it actually feels hollow for some reason.

I like how you separated your watches Rob, good watches go in the top, the others the bottom. Although I do like that orange bezel Kobo.
