Sinn 556 Update

Post by smalls » Wed Sep 21, 2011 12:22 pm

Since getting this little gem about a month ago I've had a couple pm's asking my thoughts on the watch. Figured I would throw this out there to give you guys something to help pass the day with and maybe answer a couple questions. I've been wearing this watch in rotation with the usual suspects in my collection namely the TSAR, Sub, and 007 and I have to say that it is holding it's own quite well. Upon arrival I noted that the watch felt small and the bracelet thin, but after wearing it a week or so, the 38mm size really compliments the watch and the bracelet is super comfortable.

I'm not really an accuracy whore since I change my watch out every couple of days or a couple times a day, but the Sinn seems to be right on the money everytime I check it and with the gloss dial and large white markers it's super legible. Actually it's probably the most legible watch I've owned. Quality wise I would rate it somewhere between Longines and Omega. The watch head is fantastically done and the movement is beautiful, but the bracelet clasp is a little thin and tinny feeling (where have we heard that before..cough, Rolex, cought). From what I've read, the movement can come decorated or not, so it's kind of a mixed bag on what you're gonna get. I've thought about selling it a time or two, namely right after I got it, but it's slowly finding its way into the collection because I just can't seem to take it off when I wear it. The outer ar coating hasn't been near the problem it seemed to be on the PO and U1. Not sure if it's the smaller crystal or what but it stays smudge free most of the time.

Anyways, I know I'm kinda rambling here, don't really do these at all, but the short of it is the Sinn 556 is a sweet little watch. At 38mm it's cool without trying to be cool :fro: . I've worn this exclusively on the bracelet so far but when the weather cools down I may strap it on a leather I picked up from Gerry. Thanks again Gerry! Sorry for the sucky pics. For some reason ever since moving I just can't find a decent place in the house for pics. I even pulled the light box out and this what I get, sheesh. Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope this helps at all!

guilty!
thanks to Matt for answering all my questions on the Sinn. I have been kicking around this model since DMB bought one a while ago. I've compared it to the Speedbird and the MKII Vantage ... and now I am comparing the 556 with somewhat similar models offered by Oris and BALL.

Not my cup of tea in general but having that super legible dial and hands makes it a winner and the more I look at your pics, the more I like it.

Just saw the new 556A and I have to say that I'm glad I got the original 556. Now the 856 on the other hand is a different story. 40mm tegmented case sounds awesome. Curious what the price is on these.

I miss mine. Some say it's small, but the thing is .... I don't think I'd like it if it were any larger that 38mm. It's cool to have a small watch. I kinda wish it was 36mm.
