Re: Global slow down...
Here’s my thoughts, which you are free to take or leave as you choose. It’s correct that, right now, the mortality rate is predicted to be at about 1% worldwide. Of course, we don’t really know, but let’s say for the sake of argument that’s correct. The swine flu (H1N1) is instructive (and it’s wor...

Re: Global slow down...
What personal attacks? Sorry, seeing people close to my family die unexpectedly may make me a little jumpy. But if you aren’t saying this isn’t a big deal, what exactly is your point? Every single country on the planet is treating this as a major emergency. Is it a major emergency or not? Because I...

Re: Global slow down...
Plus, you know, there’s this minor detail that when you’re saying it’s not such a big deal, you’re effectively disagreeing with the WHO, all of european countries, all of Asia, and a very very long list of doctors who have been screaming for help for a long time. So maybe that should give you a hin...

Re: Global slow down...
Not all opinions are created equal. If I say the earth is flat, it’s ignorant. This is not the fucking flu, it’s much, MUCH worse. It has a fatality rate of 15% among people 70+. fifteen percent! A friend of my dad, 71yo, perfectly healthy, non smoker, not overweight, just went from fully ok to dea...

interesting how an opinion or view that differs from some other views is ignorant.

Re: Global slow down...
Any of you who think Trump has helped position this country well to deal with this threat may want to rethink this. Whatever you think of him, this has not been his finest hour. HaHa he certainly has done better than his predecessor when Obama faced a pandemic in April the first cases were diagnose...

Re: Global slow down...
Look, I'm really not going to get on an internet forum and argue with people. But let's just say that I have a medical background, and know some stuff about this kind of stuff. The issue is that this disease, while causing relatively mild disease for most, occasionally leads to severe respiratory i...

Re: Global slow down...
I don’t know why you guys keep referencing H1N1 as an argument for how to approach COVID-19. They’re different diseases, and the rate of hospitalization, at least at first glance (haven’t done the math), looks vastly different. You may as well compare it to the common cold. It doesn’t make sense to...

Re: Global slow down...
Everyone downplaying the impact of this virus is, frankly, ignorant, and this attitude is going to get people killed. Funny how everyone has an instant opinion, even on things about which they know nothing. This is a huge problem, and things are going to get worse in the USA before they get better....

Re: Global slow down...
Wow this puts some perspective on what's going on in the US, and it really high-lights the media driven frenzy. I lived through the swine flu here in the US, no quarantines, nothing closed no hysteria that I recall but look at the final numbers from the CDC: From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CD...

Re: Another Vintage Movement Saved
Looks great! Any idea how old the movement is? These were made from the mid 30s to mid 50s IIRC. These would be better than the Swiss 6497 IMO if they were still in production. Definitely one of the sexier movements out there My watch guy called me to tell me that these movements in quality and wor...

Another Vintage Movement Saved
Hamilton 921, size 10 21 jewel pocket watch movement. The original case long ago melted down for scrap gold, so I bought the movement and had my watch guy make me a watch. The movment is beautiful so well finished and interesting to look at. I just got this in yesterday and it's running at -6/sec pe...

Re: Global slow down...
I feel like we are going to be debating how many angels can dance on the head of a pin next. COVID-19 isn't SARS or MERS, but it isn't just the seasonal flu either. I think the casualty rate of this virus is going to depend heavily on the both the underlying health of the individual and the availab...

Re: Global slow down...
From yesterdays CDC (Dr Fauchi wrong spelling I'm sure news conference. 1) Mortality rate is now down to 1% yes it's 1% worldwide 2) 80% of confirmed cases worldwide are mild or asymptomatic 3) of the fatalities 97% had underlying health conditions The fear is inundating hospitals etc.....this is ce...
