Re: Austin bombings

Insane I don’t see how they haven’t caught the person Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Well, the Unibomber was active from 1978 to 1995. I'm certain it is more difficult that people think, as it is now such a common sight to see cardboard boxes on people's doorsteps or mailboxes. This latest FEDE...

Re: Monta Basel releases just went hot!

Not to pile on, but isn't this: http://www.thedivewatchconnection.com/forum/download/file.php?id=33391 Really similar in design to this: https://www.bernardwatch.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Rolex-Steel-Sub-glidelock-buckle.jpg (image credit to bernard Watch) We (justifiably) bash Ginault for...

Re: Monta Basel releases just went hot!

FWIW, relative to the GMT bent hand thing, Rolex addresses this issue by designing the GMT movement to place the GMT hand between the hour and minute hands. The Rolex GMT hand stack goes hour, GMT, minute, then seconds hand on top. The 2893-2 (and clones such as this Sellita) go GMT, then hour, minu...

Re: Monta Basel releases just went hot!

I like the Skyquest, but as Jacob pointed out earlier, that weird bend in the GMT hand is off putting. I can see they need it in order to clear the indices, but it looks a bit like third world engineering to me. If they wanted that dial design, they need to change the pinion length to raise the hand...

Re: WRUW 20 March 18

Some might remember I bought one of those Ginaults a little over a year ago. I had to return it due to a movement issue. While they are repairing mine, they sent me this new model to try out. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180320/c44143b83ceae8d1e1fc688acd2c92d5.jpg Gilt with a dark green bezel ...

Re: Austin bombings

Someone proposed on ABC's Good Morning America today that the Austin perpetrator could be doing this in response to the call to action for increased gun control measures. Kind of a taunt in the vein of "So you want to ban certain guns? Well, look how many people I can hurt with bombs." Personally, ...

Re: Thinking hard about Zenith Pilot Cronometro Tipo CP-2 Flyback

I like it and actually prefer the SS version (not certain if that is the less expensive version or not). I like the dial without a date window. Better to not have one than to mess up the design with some oddly placed or shaped date window. My only nit to pick is it looks like the watch case maybe co...

Re: WSJ: Is Time Running Out on the Swiss Watch Industry?

This goes back to what I said earlier about the Swiss watch industry failing to capture the young executive vote. While a Rolex DJ is still probably the symbol of upwardly mobile success, I think even that symbol is becoming dated. The 20-something young manager looking to impress their colleagues i...

"Back in Switzerland, Compagnie Financière Richemont SA, owner of Cartier, Vacheron Constantin and many other brands, spent more than $240 million buying back piles of unsold watches in 2016. Unsold watches continued clogging up Richemont’s wholesale distribution channels into late last year, leadi...

Re: Funny article on The Wrist Watch Review

Agreed - transparency is key. I think it is good to know if the watch was presented as a no-cost evaluation sample by the brand owner, was provided for review purposes by a friend, or was purchased outright by the reviewer. Out of curiosity, when a brand owner (micro most likely) sends a sample watc...

Re: Funny article on The Wrist Watch Review

Interesting article, but regardless of their claim I believe there is always some potential for biased reviews in the relationship they describe. If the review site owner anonymously buys the watches they review, only then they can be unbiased. As many sites rely on the manufacturer to provide a no ...

Re: WSJ: Is Time Running Out on the Swiss Watch Industry?

I think the Swiss watch industry missed the boat when it lost the "entry level luxury" market. The watch enthusiast crowd might go for a micro, but the remaining general population who might be interested in a decent (i.e. not plastic) watch are more likely to look at Seiko or Citizen. The only Swis...

Re: New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver

I'm waiting for the SBDC051/SPB051 to come down in price. With the exception of the crazy deal Creation had a while ago, the cheapest I've seen is just shy of $800. On the factory bracelet, they are worth it. While I don't doubt that, I was hoping the price would drop to "Sumo" levels (or maybe a b...

Re: WSJ: Is Time Running Out on the Swiss Watch Industry?

Kind of helps rationalize the Tudor / Lady Gaga connection.

I guess it really doesn't matter who the celebrity is, they just want someone who has a youth following to better promote their watches to that demographic.

Re: New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver

I'm really glad I jumped on that Creation deal. I wore the 053 for 2 weeks straight in Hawaii, literally 24/7, while running, hiking, diving, playing with my kids in the pool, etc. It held up perfectly and was comfortable on the wrist (was worried about the 3 o'clock crown). It lost about 1 minute o...

I've now got one of these incoming https://i.imgur.com/IoSfTD3.jpg BNIB from an Australian AD at a huge discount from the UK price. I will have to wait until July to get my hands on it though, as my Sister-in-Law will bring it over to the UK for me. Please let me know your thoughts on this once you...

Because the Dropkick Murphy's are a Boston band and we rarely give a hoot about what is actually accurate. It just looks and sounds badass. Good enough for us.

FWIW, one of the DKM's lives in my town. We'd see him around town every so often.

If military is a key customer base for these, they might still have a market even if “smart” watches become more robust.

Here at JBPHH, any watch or device that transmits anything is not allowed.
