Re: Opinions-first car for new teen driver

My original thought was actually a MT Accord Sport. Plenty of fun to drive, but sensible at the same time. When my wife nixed the MT, my mind stated wandering. We are looking at an A3 today, but probably won't go that direction.

Re: Opinions-first car for new teen driver

Man, I really pushed for manual for this one, but it's a no-go for my wife. That's the one thing she's firm on. Crazy, but she wants to be able to drive it. Teach her, she would become the BADASS among her friends. I tried teaching my wife once. Recipe for divorce. BTDT. Our first...

Re: Opinions-first car for new teen driver

I'm not sure that a base Audi or BMW is some crazy fast sports car. These aren't much if any faster than their Japanese counterparts. And no way he's getting a Golf R; these are too expensive anyway.

Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. I've been a cop for too long and seen too many teenagers do stupid things with cars they aren't ready for. No 16 or 17 year old has the skills or maturity for a GTI (or similar).
Hard to argue with this.

Re: Opinions-first car for new teen driver

Trying to keep this at $20K or below. And I think we've ruled out the BMW. I really can't have my kid pull up to school in one...it's just a bit too much. I considered the GTI and the Golf R. The Golf R's are actually more expensive than A3s and A4s, and the GTI's aren't much less. All things being ...

Opinions-first car for new teen driver

Just crowd sourcing/thinking out loud. My son will be driving in the next few months, and we need to get him a car. Looking to buy something now actually, as my car probably isn't something I'm anxious to drive much in the winter, so I'd actually be borrowing it at times. Need either FWD or AWD, and...

Re: A visit to an AD in AD

The 58 at 15% off from an AD would be awfully tempting for me, Henry. Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as you, with the wife becoming increasingly aware of my watch purchases, so I'm going to lay low for awhile.

Re: why did the stainless ap diver (15710) not stick with you (or why did it)?

Never owned it, but like Todd, I found it much better in concept than in reality. And it wore like a massive watch on the bracelet. Still, I would love to have one on rubber.

Re: Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061

Had the 051. Thought it wore slightly smaller than a NAFT, although still a big watch overall. I found it very well made, with a fantastic bracelet. Ultimately, just like all ~$700 Seikos, it just couldn't find a place in my collection.
