Re: SIHH 2018

I still like the looks of the Polaris line, but agree with Andrew that I'd never wear it like I would a Rolex. I'd prefer the less expensive Explorer 214270 and believe it would serve the owner better and for longer without issue. ================ I couldn't agree more---As I said before, Would hav...

I don't think that's the sort of brand JLC would like to be compared to.

200M "rated" diver with a divers helmet engraved on the case back on a rubber strap and with push/pull crowns is a joke to me. I've moved on. Seems like Richemont is out to ruin JLC like they did Panerai. Rolex Explorer killer, my ass

An online dealer has a NOS coke 16710 listed for $26K
Is it a 3186 watch?

I remember when everyone went crazy for the "stick dial" 16710s until it came out that those exact dials are current service replacement parts. There are very many stupid people in this hobby.

Re: Missed opportunity

Also, there are apparently genuine Rolex all brown gmt inserts floating around. I've never seen one in person, or offered for sale, but I don't doubt their existence. When the market is right, they will start floating out - like the blueberry did a few years ago.

Re: Missed opportunity

I've heard from a number of old time collectors that those replaced parts have (at least in the past) been sold out the back door.

I once saw a stack of 50 "blueberry" inserts in RSC packaging, that a buddy got from someone who worked at a RSC in Europe.

Re: Missed opportunity

How about absence of papers? Let’s say dial, hands, bezel all check out as original. Would you wait for another opportunity given no papers? I know it’s based on level of comfort. Re: Missed opportunity

What do you think a fold in a 40 year old piece of paper would look like? Not that nice in my experience.

I'm to the point with these sellers that I would need to send the papers to a lab to buy that they're not fake.

It's OK. The clasp has been polished a few times. It also lacks SELs if you care (I prefer them).

Is Le Tits an RSC, or independent watchmaker?
If Le tits = Lititz, it's actually a Rolex training school that does services on the side. Dom in MI used to teach there.

Re: Missed opportunity

IMO dial and hands are what's most important on vintage Rolex/Tudor. After that, I'd much rather have papers on a vintage watch than a period correct bracelet. And you can always pick up the "correct" bracelet later, although it may cost you a kidney or your first born. I've seen so many fake paper...

The open workspace was super trendy for awhile until they realized that, oh surprise, distraction isn't good for productivity! Have similar workspace in our office, which is why I work from home 4 days out of 5. I hated that. My Michigan office is pretty nice but everyone (students, faculty, staff)...

I don't see how a guy dying at 102 is something to be sad about. Agreed. He made it to 102 and that’s plenty. A couple other things come to mind... - While Sinn started the company that bears his name, aren’t most of the watches that we associate with the brand more the work of Lothar Schmidt? - Wa...
