Re: Starter straight razor?

A couple more thoughts on straight razors. It might be my Aspergers or just getting older, but I do appreciate routines that have a little bit of ritual and detail built into them. I find the sequence of steps involved in mug/brush/soap/ safety razor somewhat centering in the mornings. That said, wh...

Re: Starter straight razor?

I used a straight razor for a bit. It’s tough to get a hang of and takes time. I ended up using a safety razor. And I love it. It’s a merkur, I bought a pack of 100 Feather blades for about $20 on Amazon. The standard 3,5,12 blade razors are just a huge waste of money. That’s where I am. Merkur Fut...

Terry, I kinda like them. There’s sort of a vintage vibe to the look that works for me.

I’ve always found iPhones slippery without a case.

Re: iPhone XR or XS/XSmax?

I’m gonna wait until I can handle them in person. For me it’s going to be how it feels in my hand and in my pocket. I’m coming from a 7, and I’m a front pocket kinda guy (mostly for the vibrations). I know I won’t go Max, so it’ll be either XR or XS. Screen and camera are both better than I’ll proba...

Re: 2019 Watch Goals

Ever since it came back from service, I’ve really grown attached to the Aquatimer, so I’m not that fired up about anything new. If I were to go looking though, I’m thinking a GMT, either Tudor or Grand Seiko.

Re: 2018 ins & outs

The Aquatimer came and almost went. I withdrew it due to its day wheel issue, got it fixed, now I’m glad it stayed. It’s really grown on me.

Andy, any particular reason the Skywalker came and left? I still have a soft spot for them.

IWC service in the UAE

Well, I dropped the Aquatimer chronic off two weeks ago. Very nice lady took it, did the order paperwork, gave me coffee, and told me it would be about 4-6 weeks. Got it back today, looks awesome, two year warranty. She gave me coffee and a little goodie bag with a leather travel case and some choco...

You’ll want to check the model number. They went through a couple different versions of their quick release set up.

Re: New Seiko Lowercase Digital Fieldmaster

Now that some of you guys have a little run time on these, what’s the consensus? Features, functions, is the alarm any better than G-Shock? Hell, is the watch any better than a G?

If you can't use the logical solution of a fourth hand to monitor the second time zone, at least use something like Alpina's rotating disc. This just looks like a second, poorly placed, date window.
Yeah, that. Looks a bit like it’s 25 o’clock on the 22nd.

Re: Ulysse Nardin 42mm Diver

To be fair, how I feel about the movement depends on how much work they ddid to it. The Omega 1120 was an ETA 2892, but they legitimately did a bunch of work on it. On the other hand, while I get calling the LE "Blue Shark" because it's blue and everyone likes sharks, did they have to print that imm...

Re: Mmm...mmm Radium

The New York Times story raises more questions than it answers. I don’t recall strontium being a radium decay product, rays don’t “leak out”, and the physical symptoms could all be attributed to being a naval officer in Hong Kong.

Interesting. I’m familiar with radium dial markers and hands, but this is about bezels. Were the Bakelite bezels supposed to be luminous?

Re: Suggestions for inexpensive dress watch

I see some great suggestions, have a couple comments (surprise) 1. If your boy wants a good paying challenge in a very challenging environment, we are are in desperate need of good engineers that aren’t total retards. 2. If cuff clearance is an issue, move your own damn buttons. A bosun that can’t s...

Re: For Dive Watch Fans...

OK, I've had my coffee and..... Why take the two worst things from a Seamaster, He crown and the scalloped bezel, and use them again on another watch? Clip the pointer off the hour hand and extend the minute hand some. Not a fan of the logo overload, ditch either the fleur de lis, or the 1701. Or bo...

Not picking on this model specifically, but just how many 200m dive watches does Seiko need to produce? Every possible variation except the one I want. What would be so hard about an SKX007 size with a 6R15? I mean, really. Yeah, I know. 20 years from now, they’ll mine the SKX as a nostalgic reissu...
