Re: Helson Sharkmaster 300 aka Omega sm300 homage

It comes with a really decent tropic style strap.

I wear mine mostly on a NATO though.

Re: Helson Sharkmaster 300 aka Omega sm300 homage

Weren't the original Helson's the ones that steamed up if you wore them in the shower? I like the overall look and since Omegas isn't making the watch anymore, am fine with the homages :) I can find nothing easily from a quick google search on Helsons leaking or fogging. There is a WUS thread from ...

Terrible name. All these watches look weirdly flat
Exactly what I was thinking!

It is almost like the designers were told to build a watch case and given only some flat stock, a drill press and a band saw as tools to work with.

Re: Ginault - questions answered

Odd on the website thing. I can get to it through my company's VPN and their security settings are pretty aggressive. As most of you guys know, I bought a Ginault early on and I like it for what it is. The watch was well made and the details were done well. I've purchased much more expensive watches...

Re: Rolex AD event - 2018 Basel content

Are those photos of the GMT the same watch? The first few photos where the watch is a bit in shadow look really good. The photo where the watch is in the direct light looks - dare I say - garish. If you had said it was a Steinhart I would've believed you. I like the bracelet though. I agree with bot...

Re: New 2018 Seiko SPB077

Looks great but I think 20mm are too narrow on that body This is why I kind of prefer the stock rubber strap on my SPB053. The rubber flairs to maybe 24mm at the lug ends, meeting the width of the watch case, then tapers to the clasp. The bracelet (which I'm wearing now) doesn't flair. The SPB053 i...

Re: New 2018 Seiko SPB077

I like this a lot. Unfortunately (or not), I already own a MM300 and an SPB053 so this would overlap those quite a bit.

If I didn't already own the MM300 I'd be all over this one though.

@Todd - if your WTB doesn't work out, this might scratch the MM300 itch.

Re: Storage for safety deposit box?

I just use my gun safe which I had build into the wall of my closet when I remodeled the house (house has dormers and the safe is build into the "dead space" between the dormer wall and the rake of the roof). I just loop the watches over the barrels of the rifles and shotguns, one watch per gun. I h...

Re: Carbs & Coffee - Car Meet Photos

Looking at these photos makes me think back to the cars some of my friends had (and beat on) in high school. I had a buddy with a 914, a number of guys had beetles, plus the mix of late '60's muscle such as Camaros, Chargers, and a GTO. If we had only known what those cars would be worth today....

I agree with you, Carl. It's an absolutely lovely watch, but other than for purposes of writing this article, I can think of no reason to dive with it. Even Jason's example failed during his trip and had to be sent back to JC for repair. I'm not a writer or reviewer, so I'll play in the ocean with m...

Re: Monta Basel releases just went hot!

Head on the Tudor looks so much better. Side view it looks so much worse. The 41mm BB mid case design sucks SO BAD. I have to agree with Jacob on this one. The Monta looks almost Seiko SKX007-like having the rounded lugs. The Tudor has that crisp, polished bevel which appears more precise. I also a...

Re: Christopher Ward C65 Vintage Diver

Am I the only one here tempted to get one ? [emoji1] You owned an Oris 65 and this seems like a less well-thought-out version of the same design. I totally understand the appeal, but if I were looking for a boxed crystal, narrow bezel, vintage inspired diver, Oris would get my money before CW (and ...

Re: AEgir Tubes?

FWIW, I think having tubes in softer material straps is just a good idea from a general practice perspective. I've noticed Seiko has started adding tubes to their new generation rubber straps (the ones that feel softer, almost silicone-like, such as the model included with the SLA017 and SBDC053). O...

Re: Christopher Ward C65 Vintage Diver

I like it, but then again, I also like the Oris 65, which this one apes quite a bit.

The biggest advantage I see on this is it is about 50% of the cost of the Oris, but the Oris dial is about 100% better looking.

Re: PSA - Don't use the wrong lug pin size

Ugh. Impressed your guy was able to get the dremel into the end link hole to mill out the pin. I’ve got to think those pin tips were fully compressed just to squeeze a 22 pin between the 20mm lugs. I have a hard time replacing bracelet endlinks with approximately sized pins and this guy gets plus 2’...
