I’m way behind on WRUW threads (obviously), but dibs? Love this one. Sold the SS I had because of the screw-down pushers. The Ti doesn’t have that problem :).

IWC Tribute to 3705

If you can live without a ceramic case, I'd track down a nice example of the 3706. You get the real deal with the classic dial for a fraction of the price. Or, go for the new Spitfire Chronograph for $6K with the same in-house movement as the 3705 Tribute. This was the easy answer for me. The 3777-...

Re: Incoming, Omega Seamaster 300M

Omega has been an incredible (relative) bargain in the watch world for some time now, and it’s even more apparent with the hype around specific brands/models.

Congrats!

“Bespoke” does not inherently imply “good”.

Sometimes it means “too terrible for widespread distribution”.

Re: Hodinkee buys Crown & Caliber

I just saw that and was coming here to post it. That's a major move for Hodinkee. C&C has massive volume. I doubt anything will change significantly in the short term; C&C has a full-blown operation already humming along, and that's not the type of thing Ben Clymer wants to come in and disrupt. I've...

Grand Seiko Hi-Beat “Shirakaba”

Matt, you weren’t a fan of the previous Hi Beat? On the contrary - the original hi-beat GMT is still my favorite Grand Seiko to date - the SBGJ001. I think it has a better dial, and I think the 44GS case is the best one Seiko makes. I just wouldn’t mind if it had this movement instead. https://uplo...

Re: Grand Seiko Hi-Beat “Shirakaba”

I'm glad GS stepped up their movement design game. I still prefer the Mt. Iwate dial to anything new they've created, but the updated movements are handsome.

They monetize the forum on the back of “pledge membership”, so they definitely have incentive to keep the Rolex market booming.

Re: ARES Newsletter

Eh. Not a fan of the play on the UX name or the oil-filled watch. Sinn does it well, and they’re probably the only ones I’d trust to buy an oil-filled watch from.

I don’t think I want to be part of the experimentation process with a new brand on aftermarket support for that tech.

Re: Got the call from the AD: Rolex OP 41 Tiffany Dial

I like it! Fun watch. Bringing back some of the "stella dial" fun is smart. There's so much posturing and seriousness in luxury watches today, that some of the casual flair is welcome. That's part of what I really like about the Milgauss (especially the Z-Blue).

Re: Patek Discontinues Nautilus 5711

It was an overrated watch @ MSRP, it was ridiculous at resale prices before discontinuation, and it's going to be absolutely stupid now. I really enjoyed the time I spent with the 5980 (which was a better deal relative to the price of the three-handed 5711), but it is NOT worth the premium unless yo...
