Re: New release by Helson. I don't quite get the point/

If it’s actually 300m resistant still impressed Good WR is not really rocket science this days. The quality machining of cases is not so difficult to achive with modern production machinery. That said, don't necessarily believe everything a micro brand prints on a dial. I don't think any of this wa...

Re: Vintage Rolex Madness

The market for vintage and modern Rolex has gone absolutely batshit insane in the last year or so. There are several watches I wish I had either purchased or held onto if I had only known. Looking for vintage Rolex? Consider a Datejust. They’re still reasonably priced. If you can deal with the small...

Re: Movie suggestions!!

Just finally watched Blade Runner 2049. Beautifully filmed, but I'm not sure the story had much of a point. And it's really long.

Re: Westworld?

This show seems to be one of the most polarizing in recent memory, and other reviews I've heard basically go the way this thread has gone. It's either "one of the most complex and interesting shows I've ever seen," or "I just couldn't get into it (too boring; too confusing)." I watched the pilot way...

Re: Rolex AD event - 2018 Basel content

Of all the pictures posted, I really think the Rolex OP and JLC 40mm are best. Sometimes simple and classic is good. That said, since neither have a date, they'd be a no go for me (I swear if I ever buy another watch without a date function, I'm kicking my own ass). The bezel on the Breitling just l...

Re: Omega goes full Kanye

I recently picked up a 2531.80 Seamaster (the Pierce Brosnan Bond version). It's a good looking, simple dive watch with a solid movement. It has some terrific features that show Omega was really into getting the details right. I am struck by how spot on they got the case size and shape. The wave dia...

Re: New Oris Aquis Date Brown and Green

As a Rolex Sub fan, I really like the Oris (not sure about brown, but the green looks good). Good company making good, relatively affordable watches with their own design cues. I had a black dial TT1 diver for awhile - one of the nicest looking watches I've ever owned.

Specially processed gold lol Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk You have to admit it sounds better than "spray painted." If you don’t mind, could you do an intro post for us in the main forum. Re: 'rare' Domino's Rolex for auction

I just saw someone selling a NOS black eta BB for $8,000! why? Because “only 2500 were produced”! There has never been any evidence of that number. It’s just people making it up to sell shit. I took a long hiatus from the active collector lifestyle and I’m about ready for another one. I calculated ...

Re: How do you guys delineate between an "Homage" vs. Copy/Ripoff?

I’m in pretty much the same camp. Steinhart’s vintage GMT is quite nice. Steinhart’s copy of the current GMT Master II is blech. And it’s not just price based. Modern redo of discontinued vintage is OK. Pretty much where I stand as well. I would buy their Explorer GMT version. I agree but, having p...

Re: 'rare' Domino's Rolex for auction

I agree with what others have said - the rapid price increase on "garden variety" Rolex models has taken a lot of the fun out of this hobby. As little as 5 years ago (maybe even 3), you could get a common five digit Sub or GMT for under $6,000, and maybe even under $5,000. Around 7 years ago I purch...

Re: Rolex Sport model preowned pricing

I've always had good experiences with DavidSW. I've found his prices to be in line with what other GM dealers charge, and he's very responsive to my inquiries. In the few instances where I've thought his price was higher than market, I've just looked for the watch somewhere else. It's also true that...

Re: Basel Releases 2018

No idea, just saw the pics and thought they looked cool. I'm assuming sub-1k unless it's a LE ? Someone in the uk said it’s more expensive than the last LE version. $2,500 as per Hodinkee. New movement, but it doesn't appear to be special in any way. https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/seiko-presage-...

Re: Basel Releases 2018

Not sure why Hamilton couldn't have done a simple date window on the regular sized autos like they did on the 50mm mechanical (and who's going to buy that, anyways?). The day/date makes the dial look really cramped.

Re: Basel Releases 2018

Love what Tudor is doing, but it's absolutely a "stroll through the mall" type of watch, at least from what I've seen. More young folks in my area want Tudor than other established brands. Price is one factor, I'm sure. But style and marketing are a big part of it. It's definitely not just a WIS br...
