Re: Rolex 71’ Cosmo…Big Bux

I've seen this before, but it is very cool. The guy knew that Rolex was a "good watch for diving", so he bought a non-diver Rolex, (rightly) decided he shouldn't dive with it, and then kept it in the box and never wore it. And it happened to be a ROC Paul Newman (which probably was available at a di...

Re: Best Explorer one homage?

damn - excellent recommendations! A lot to think about. I've had all those Sinns and really like them, but to be honest I'm not a fan of the H-link bracelet, or to be more specific, i like the oyster more .. I've tried to like the Alpanist but jut can't for some reason? Black Bay or Ranger are not ...

Re: Best Explorer one homage?

I'd say the Smith's Everest if you're looking for the one that is most like the Explorer in size and appearance (36mm and 3-6-9 dial). Other choices would be the Tudor Heritage Ranger, but it's 41mm (and a vintage ranger comes in at only 34mm and would cost you more than a 14270 or 114270 - plus the...

Re: Longines Ultra-Chron Diver

I like it except for the straight end bracelet. Sent from my HD1905 using Tapatalk I saw that, but the gap between the endlinks and the case is small enough that I don't think it would bother me too much. I really don't like the look on the Tudor Heritage Ranger - way more noticeable on that watch.

Longines Ultra-Chron Diver

This one looks really good to my eye. Maybe a little on the large size but, as the article notes, the cushion case will probably make it wear smaller. A bit pricey for Longines, but I imagine that relates to the high beat movement. https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/longines-ultra-chron-diver-high-be...

Re: The watches in Top Gun: Maverick

Saw it Saturday night. Definitely noticed all the IWC. The dialogue and plot were pretty basic, but the action sequences were outstanding. It’s nice to see an honest to goodness blockbuster that doesn’t involve superheroes, or space travel, or alternate dimensions, or even dinosaurs.

Re: Sinn U50 Pro!

I'm tempted to jump on this, but if I get one I'll just wait for one of you guys to flip it in two weeks. There are only a few left, and nobody here flips watches, so you better grab one now! If 69 was available, I would have grabbed it. However, this is what I really want: https://d29ueykkv8fpnq.c...

You guys always complain about a dial with a wall of text. Sinn puts one word on the entire dial and you still freak out. :excited:

Wow that crown guard is stupid. Other than that, I like the one with the black bezel/dial and white markers. But, again, the crown guard is stupid.

That case looks very poorly designed. The lugs are long and the strap gap is excessive. It’s an attractive watch if you look at it for a second but close examination isn’t good.
Hamilton does a fair number of cases like that. You definitely see it with a lot of the khaki field models.

I really enjoyed that. Very good tutorial for those of us who are less than mechanically inclined, especially with the 3D rotating illustrations.

I wish I had purchased the SD4K back before prices got super crazy. I'd have a hard time letting that one go. But then, I thought you were crazy for getting rid of your Sub LV.

Re: Monta Oceanking or Sinn U50.... Or seamaster? UPDATE: SEAMASTER WINS

I wouldn't do the white dial if you're only going to have the Seamaster, Tuna, and G-Shock. if you're going to add the submariner, then I might do the white (or blue) for the Seamaster for some variety. I have two 16570's, one black and one polar. They're basically the only watches I wear now. If pu...

Yeah, that doesn’t bother me at all. The three hands are proportionate to each other, and it’s not like they’re ridiculously small.

I'm a sucker for a white dial and black hands/surrounds so I'm a fan. Re: Sinn 556i’s with new colorful dials

Putting aside the "everyone's doing colored dials now" observation, I've always thought the 556 would look better without the crown guards. And maybe without the 100% satin finish, but I realize that's kind of a Sinn thing.
