Re: Movie suggestions!!

Just finished season 4 of Bosch on Amazon. LOVE this series! Well worth watching if you like good detective stuff. Also watched Last Flag Flying. Pretty good story. Read all the Bosch books and watched the first season... I’ll check it out  Definitely worth watching. I’ve read all the books...

Re: Thoughts on Vacheron Constantin Overseas?

Yeah, the tax thing is interesting. Haven't read the decision, but it was 5-4 and not strictly along party lines, either.

If anyone is thinking about buying a watch online and wants to avoid sales tax, you'll probably want to do it sooner rather than later.

Re: I really like this Zenith

Anyone seen in person? Id likely be more into the bracelet version though. I think im gonna shelf the AP idea for now as im becoming soured on the lack of availability not to mention any discounting. I saw it in person. Admittedly it was a pre-production version but I was not impressed with the app...

Re: Thoughts on Vacheron Constantin Overseas?

What the fuck is wrong with these companies? Like AP and Rolex? There’s limiting distribution to increase demand, and then there’s just making it so impossible to actually buy one of their watches people will start just looking elsewhere. Or do they think This is really going to solve the “grey pro...

Re: Thoughts on Vacheron Constantin Overseas?

the AP Jumbo 15202 and PP Nautilus 5711 (not to mention the 5712 as well) have gone nuts in prices on the grey market. Waiting lists for both at the boutiques are just as insane as the prices. I love the steel Patek sport watches, but only for investment and eventual resale. They dont do anything f...

Beautiful watches - the AP bracelet digging into my wrist thing is an annoyance I hope to one day experience.

Re: Thoughts on Vacheron Constantin Overseas?

The one other issue I've read about the APRO in general is that the bracelet, while beautiful, sometimes doesn't fit snug to the wrist depending on wrist size/shape. No matter the model, I would definitely try one on before I bought.

Re: Thoughts on Vacheron Constantin Overseas?

Don't mess around. If you're going to do this, go big. 15202 or Nautilus. Don't waste your time or your money on the other stuff. A lot of folks recommend the 15202 over 15400. I know the 15202 has the direct link to the original jumbo and the movement is beautiful to look at, but they're more expe...

Re: Thoughts on Vacheron Constantin Overseas?

I'm with Wu. I don't know that I'd describe the VC as unrefined, but the design cues don't do it for me the way the AP's or PP's do. The last I checked, you could get a decent deal (relatively speaking) on a pre-owned 15400.

Re: New release by Helson. I don't quite get the point/

If it’s actually 300m resistant still impressed Good WR is not really rocket science this days. The quality machining of cases is not so difficult to achive with modern production machinery. That said, don't necessarily believe everything a micro brand prints on a dial. I don't think any of this wa...

Re: Vintage Rolex Madness

The market for vintage and modern Rolex has gone absolutely batshit insane in the last year or so. There are several watches I wish I had either purchased or held onto if I had only known. Looking for vintage Rolex? Consider a Datejust. They’re still reasonably priced. If you can deal with the small...

Just finally watched Blade Runner 2049. Beautifully filmed, but I'm not sure the story had much of a point. And it's really long.

Re: Westworld?

This show seems to be one of the most polarizing in recent memory, and other reviews I've heard basically go the way this thread has gone. It's either "one of the most complex and interesting shows I've ever seen," or "I just couldn't get into it (too boring; too confusing)." I watched the pilot way...

Re: Rolex AD event - 2018 Basel content

Of all the pictures posted, I really think the Rolex OP and JLC 40mm are best. Sometimes simple and classic is good. That said, since neither have a date, they'd be a no go for me (I swear if I ever buy another watch without a date function, I'm kicking my own ass). The bezel on the Breitling just l...

Re: Omega goes full Kanye

I recently picked up a 2531.80 Seamaster (the Pierce Brosnan Bond version). It's a good looking, simple dive watch with a solid movement. It has some terrific features that show Omega was really into getting the details right. I am struck by how spot on they got the case size and shape. The wave dia...

Re: New Oris Aquis Date Brown and Green

As a Rolex Sub fan, I really like the Oris (not sure about brown, but the green looks good). Good company making good, relatively affordable watches with their own design cues. I had a black dial TT1 diver for awhile - one of the nicest looking watches I've ever owned.

Re: 'rare' Domino's Rolex for auction

I just saw someone selling a NOS black eta BB for $8,000! why? Because “only 2500 were produced”! There has never been any evidence of that number. It’s just people making it up to sell shit. I took a long hiatus from the active collector lifestyle and I’m about ready for another one. I calculated ...

Re: How do you guys delineate between an "Homage" vs. Copy/Ripoff?

I’m in pretty much the same camp. Steinhart’s vintage GMT is quite nice. Steinhart’s copy of the current GMT Master II is blech. And it’s not just price based. Modern redo of discontinued vintage is OK. Pretty much where I stand as well. I would buy their Explorer GMT version. I agree but, having p...

Re: 'rare' Domino's Rolex for auction

I agree with what others have said - the rapid price increase on "garden variety" Rolex models has taken a lot of the fun out of this hobby. As little as 5 years ago (maybe even 3), you could get a common five digit Sub or GMT for under $6,000, and maybe even under $5,000. Around 7 years ago I purch...

Re: Rolex Sport model preowned pricing

I've always had good experiences with DavidSW. I've found his prices to be in line with what other GM dealers charge, and he's very responsive to my inquiries. In the few instances where I've thought his price was higher than market, I've just looked for the watch somewhere else. It's also true that...
