Re: Ghosts of Watches Past

I know that most of you BODs don't get sentimental about watches you've flipped, and some of you guys never sell. I was going through some files this morning and came across these. All gone. If I knew then... https://imageshack.com/a/img923/7498/Sb5gVj.jpg 1675 Mark I dial This one’s gotta hurt.

Re: Ghosts of Watches Past

I generally don’t regret selling most watches from an aesthetic point of view. From a financial point of view, I should have held onto the Zenith Daytona, the in-house, pre-ceramic Daytona, the vintage Doxa Searambler, and one of my 16600 sea dwellers. And I should have bought that GMT 16710 when I ...

Watched Legend (the Tom Hardy Kray brothers movie) over the weekend. Tom Hardy is very good. The movie itself is just okay.

Re: Watch trading: a cautionary tale

^^ I've experienced the same so I'm sure it'll show up. I did learn something from this, though, is that shipping priority for 2 days is about 60 bucks for the medium box with 3K insurance. Shipping registered mail, supposedly insured with the same amount, also in a medium priority box was only 38 ...

Re: Omega Speedmaster Racing Chrono, thoughts?

I had the black 9300 version for a time, that I actually think I bought from Zack. It's a great watch that wears smaller than its size would indicate. And these newer versions are supposed to be thinner (the 9300 was a thick watch). And this particular version looks great. However, having also owned...

Re: IWC Spitfire Timezoner

There are some things to like about it. Maybe next version will be better. I like the shape of the case and the hands. The date window itself is unobtrusive. The Arabic numerals on the dial are nice. That said: - There is no need to have a city dial AND a numeric GMT representation (but then I'm no...

Re: Any nice watch related "coffee table" books that you own?

I have the original Moonwatch Only, but I got it as a gift. I wouldn't pay MSRP for it, either. It's cool and the pictures are very nice, but once you've been through it a few times the novelty wears off. It is a good resource if you're looking to buy a Speedy, particularly vintage. But you can find...

Re: Watch trading: a cautionary tale

^^ haha - thanks guys... I've read somewhere that Tudor is just swapping out movements of the in-house calibers on the BB's if they need repair. Anecdotal reports, but I've read a couple. Also a guy on TRF, I believe, said his watch just stopped working after 6 months and Tudor just swapped it out,...

Ohhh not good. Not at all. Beyond the terrible design, I always dislike the dumb 3 date (or gmt) window cutout on any watch.

Re: Who buys this stuff?

I would never buy that, but I've seen way worse.

Beyond design, a knowledgeable local AD I spoke with didn't have anything nice to say about Hublot build quality when compared to other watches in that price range. So I wouldn't even be interested in their smaller, less flashy models.

Re: Watch trading: a cautionary tale

The guys on TRF say going through RSC in Dallas is your best bet - better experiences there than through the other service centers, I guess. No experience sending one in (with our without warranty card), but I believe you can contact them and send it directly rather than go through an AD/watchmaker....

Re: Watch trading: a cautionary tale

That sucks, and you're a prince. I try to help people when I can, but after the second, "nah, I don't like it," I would have told the guy that I'll be happy to suggest some other options but that he's on his own for future purchases. On the watch, the issue you may run into is not only is it an in-h...

Re: Monta Skyquest Pre-order for 48 hours

I have to say I like these. Reminiscent of the Rolex GMT/Explorer II without being a direct copy of either (though it's pretty close to the Explorer II if you go with the metal bezel option).

Looking forward to some real world pics.

I wouldn't lump Cartier in with "non-watch people" brands like Michael Kors, Ralph Laruen, other "fashion watches", or even Tiffany (though I'm sure Tiffany's quality is excellent, at least with respect to the case and dial). Cartier, while also being a jeweler, has a strong horological history. Th...

Cartier tank assuming it's in his budget. It's a classic for a reason. Available in various sizes and styles; quartz and auto. Date and no date. And chances are very good that she'll know Cartier - she probably won't know the others, so Cartier will avoid the "honest, honey, it's a great watch" conv...

To be fair, how I feel about the movement depends on how much work they ddid to it. The Omega 1120 was an ETA 2892, but they legitimately did a bunch of work on it. On the other hand, while I get calling the LE "Blue Shark" because it's blue and everyone likes sharks, did they have to print that im...

I’ve never owned a Seiko. Hmmm. Guess it’s just me. I'm not a Seiko fanatic and I'm definitely not into the whole modding thing, but a basic SKX is a terrific watch to own. They're aren't the most accurate, but they're absolutely bulletproof. Put it down for weeks, pick it up, give it a little shak...
