Re: Carbon fiber / forged carbon watches - what options are out there?

Remove steel in various grits and you’ll achieve the same level of polish by machine or hand. Why pay extra for hand polish when there’s no added benefit? It’s a gimmick in that it’s still done with wheels and yet they make it seem like the workers are true togishi PeIqY85QyqY With luxury items, "h...

Very tastefully sized on your wrist. I'm sure that Megalith warranty is very reassuring.

I prefer this one from your collection however, as it is more under the radar.

Re: In Case You Missed It - Timefactors

I can't wear anything under 40mm anymore. Why is the assumption that if you've made something too big in the past, that you have to swing all the way in the opposite direction? I mean, I don't see the issue in offering more sizes? You can still go buy a 250 gram full size Dreadnought GMT today if y...

Re: Hodinkee Watch Insurance

I have assumed that you guys with serious collections would have a rider/endorsement on your homeowners. That being said, as often as some of you buy and sell, I can see that being problematic. I recommend Jeweler's Mutual. Fairly easy to add/remove watches if you have a receipt. People typically s...

Re: Hodinkee Watch Insurance

Interesting. Definitely some value with making it an integrated process with the purchase. I bought my 16600 through Crown & Caliber and they have a similar relationship with Jewelers Mutual, so I was able to set up a Jeweler's Mutual account and policy with 5 additional minutes of mouse clicking af...

Re: Sinn U50 photos

My fully teg version finally arrived so I thought I would post a few photos with the other two smaller divers in my current rotation. Compares very similar to my 16600 although obviously thinner. My Bell & Ross is probably the most comfortable dive watch in my collection being quartz and 11.2mm thic...

Re: Right out of the gate.....New Sub $20,000!

You’re saying people, in these emerging markets, who used to work their ass off for a bowl of nothing are finding wealth and seeking luxury goods, like Rolex. It’s true. Yeah, I don’t think Rolex ever reduced supply at all... it is just that due to emerging markets, there is more demand, and being ...

Re: Right out of the gate.....New Sub $20,000!

This is the very first. No way it is representational of what the eventual grey price will be.

Bigger question is that with all of Rolex's paranoia about their watches being flipped, how the hell did they let the very first one go to a flipper, with a warranty card???

Now if they don’t fuck up the case might be cool!
They will probably stick it in a 52mm dive watch.

Re: Carbon fiber / forged carbon watches - what options are out there?

Carbon fiber IS a gimmick much like GS Zaratau polish. It’s simply sheets or powder carbon fiber glued together with epoxy and exposed to pressure. I used to make micarta using a custom jig with clamps. You could likely buy a block of carbon fiber, G10, or carbon fiber from knife making supply and ...

I like it. Surprised they can deliver such a nicely finished design with a super hard coated titanium case for $400. Even matched the date wheels to the dial which is a nice touch. Edit: appears the founders are the same Malaysian group that is behind Boldr. Probably have easy access to production ...

Re: New Submariner announcement Sept 1st?

I still see nothing improved over the 116600 which they inexplicably discontinued in favor of the fat and shiny SD with a cyclops. So if this is what folks wanted, they had already made this watch years ago. I wish Rolex would flex their size and infrastructure and produce something actually innova...

Re: the exit watch

I'm looking at this question in a slightly different way. Last watch I'll ever own? As long as I don't die suddenly, or go nuts, I've always said that would be my 16600. It's not the most valuable, or rare watch by any means, but it's classy, versatile, accurate, robust and just the right size. Thi...

Proportions on those are so much better than the Panamera. All reports are that they are just brilliant. I have a lot of docs as clients and the 911 used to be the "official car of surgeons".... but that transitioned to the Tesla Model S. I suspect the Taycan will soon be sitting in Physicians drive...
