Re: Name change, Ute Watch Co.

Excellent decision Terry - great name.

Plus, let's face it: these days, shipping anything with the name "Toxic" on the package is just asking for a delay.

Re: Casio's new G-Shock Street Utility Military watches

I’ve been considering the new all black Rangeman. I’m thinking it might be too big, but it can’t be as crazy as this lunchbox I wear. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200424/7fefb2d5e88269bfa110b9847dc550b1.jpg Actually, that looks fine. Great, in fact. G Shocks do a weird psychological mind-meld...

Re: New Hamilton Khaki Aviation Converter watches

I went through my "slide rule/pilot/aviator" watch phase a couple of years ago. Decided that I just didn't need that much information on my watch. And if I did . . . well, I can buy a Seiko Flightmaster or a Citizen Nighthawk and get the same look for about $1500 less than the Hamilton. Looks cool t...

Re: Swatch cancels Zurich watch event over coronavirus fears

According to the most recent analysis, the source of the virus was a cat that was served up as the main entree at some Chinese festival.

Apparently, Morris ate a bat with coronavirus and - after maybe the worst decision ever in the history of event catering - here we are.

Re: Swatch cancels Zurich watch event over coronavirus fears

I just find it incredible that these viruses emerge every single year from the same regions of the Far East and can be traced directly to millions of people sleeping, eating, crapping and fornicating within arms length of poultry, pigs, bats and rodents. And every year we have to scramble around and...

By all accounts, this is just a particularly nasty flu bug that of the people infected, 80% only feel mild effects. So no, this isn't Stephen Kings "The Stand".

I'm old enough to remember the Swine Flu, Bird Flu and SARS panics. I'll wait for more evidence to come in before I start wearing a mask.

Re: Movie suggestions!!

I watched "Parasite" over the weekend and was completely blown away. That movie goes from tragedy to comedy to Alfred Hitchcock to horror on a dime. One of the most inventive and suspenseful movies I have seen in a long, long time. I think Oscar got it right for once. I also loved "Once Upon a Time ...

Re: Don't buy your Rolex from Australia

My first "real" watch was an Omega AT 2500 that I bought after I made partner. Damn thing kept stopping. Ended up sending it to Omega for service about 3 months after I bought it. It came back OK, but by then I was done with expensive autos and swapped it for a quartz Seamaster..

Re: Don't buy your Rolex from Australia

No doubt the product is superior, but . . . is any of this worth it any more? Superior to what? There are plenty of excellent watches in the Rolex price range (or less) that one can actually buy and enjoy - today. Not sure where this notion came from that Rolex is somehow superior to all other bran...

Re: Don't buy your Rolex from Australia

You know, 15 years ago when I first got into watches, Rolex was freaking Mount Olympus. I'd go into Jared and Ben Bridge, stare at the Subs, GMT's etc and say . . . you know, someday I may get one of those. Until then, I'm OK with a Seiko (or 5) and a quartz Aqua Terra. But if the timing and funds ...

Re: Antiques Road Show Features Man Who Bought Rolex Oyster Paul Newman For $345.97 In The Early 70s And Never Wore It

So if you're this guy, what do you do? Me? My first call is Sotheby's - sell it to the highest bidder, give 'em a commission and cash out. There's no way I'd wear it. I'd be scared to death I'd damage it. Keep it in the house? Right. My face is now all over the internet. They know where I live. I'd ...

Unfortunately Eddies watches are only available to purchase on even-numbered Sundays at 2:00 am during a 30 minute window. You gotta be a vampire or an insomniac to score one of his pieces any more.

Of maybe more interest is the new logo - which looks suspiciously like Doc Vail's "NTH" logo. Eddie is getting hammered about it even on the TF Fanboi "TZ-UK" forum. Eddie Platts business reputation is at best "uneven" . This won't help. http://www.tz-uk.com/pics/NTH-LOGO2.jpg https://scontent.fapa1...

Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery.
Seriously, those things are pretty cool. If Fortis brought them back for a reasonable price, they'd sell like crazy.

I read the book ("I Heard You Paint Houses") years ago and always thought it would make a helluva movie. I was amazed at the amount I forgot. Made me realize that, aside from mob violence, it was about family life. Also, that anyone who came into contact with them ended up ruined.

I guess if this business model is good enough for Bill Yao, Eyal Lalo and Gunther Whathisname at Steinhart, it's good enough for Marc at Island. Hell, that guy at Deep Blue has been selling SKX knock offs (the "NATO Diver"!) for years. Isn’t Gunther’s last name “Steinhart”? Yes. "Steinhart" is Germ...

Re: Marc from Island Watches Now Selling "The Islander" . . .

I don't understand what makes this very direct copy compelling... I view it at as a non-so-subtle jab at Seiko in the wake of the "new" Seiko 007 replacement with 100m WR and a push in crown : "If you're not gonna make the watch that Seiko buyers have been clamoring for for years, then I will". He'...
