Re: The Story of Tempus Machina Watches

Wow. Not sure what I ever did to you, Matt, but it sounds to me like you're the one who's gotten all high and mighty here. Can't handle being called a "keyboard ninja" because you're running your mouth on a watch you've never handled in person? Fine. Never pegged you has having a thin skin, but I le...

Re: The Story of Tempus Machina Watches

We'll have to agree to disagree here, as there's absolutely nothing lazy about his approach or execution. Whether it's the re-machining of the cases, the custom sapphire super dome crystals, the custom coin-edge bezel of the 219, or the true gilt dials, he's putting a lot of effort into this. Same a...

Re: The Story of Tempus Machina Watches

Dang, buncha keyboard ninjas up in this joint... Like Steve said, the guy behind the company is as stand up as they come, and trust me, when you have one of his watches on your wrist, the instinct to talk smack pretty much evaporates. Would I pay what he's asking? Nope. But I know plenty of guys who...

Re: Montblac's new TimeWalker models

The Rally-Timer is awesome, plain and simple. It's also $33,900, which is decidedly not awesome. The bread and butter pieces are nice in person, wear well and are priced right, but they're nothing to write home about about. Definitely solid additions to Montblanc's collection -- the DLC'd UTC Chrono...

Re: would you pay $15k for a Diver 65?

It's gorgeous in person, but they're waaaaaaaaaaaaay off base with the pricing (yes, I'm referring to the $10K figure). Honestly, I'm not sure what the hell they were thinking here, given that pretty much every other brand at SIHH was looking for ways to bring the price points of their collections d...

Re: Boutique?

Just a bit of remodeling in advance of their new collections -- they'll be holding media/consumer events in NYC mid-March, or thereabouts.

That said, their first official post-Baselworld "show" will take place in merry old Londontown at the end of February.

Adam

They fookin' nailed this one. Okay, so maybe (just maybe) the "#speedytuesday" thing is a bit cheesy, but if it results in something this cool, then who am I to argue? And while the price may seem steep, unlike the CK2998, I'm 99.9% sure that this one's gonna appreciate in value (we'll agree too dis...

Apples and oranges, IMO. Mind you, their appeal is not mutually exclusive, but comparing the two seems odd. That said, I found the Pelagos a bit too sterile during the week that I owned one, but the LHD has me sold -- I will own one before long. As for the Supermarine 500, I love it: http://i114.pho...

Re: Bremont Skipping BaselWorld in 2017

Even SIHH is opening their doors to the public for the first time this year. Sure, it's just for one day at the end of the program, but if you had told an industry pundit that this would happen even five years ago, they would've said that you're nuts. Frankly, the rise of the internet, and now socia...

Re: G-Shocks for $6K?

To be fair, the $6200 MR-G is a limited edition of just 300 pieces (which sold out almost immediately and now sells for a premium on the used market), and the price reflects the hand-applied tsuiki technique, which is performed by a single craftsman. Would I spend that kind of cash on a G? Nope, but...

I think it's fantastic. Ditch the date (or at least match the font to the rest of the dial), and it would be perfect. Well, save for the fact that it says "Maurice Lacroix" on the dial. ;)

All I care about is that that's my buddy, Danny, in the header image for the Hodinkee article. Not sure why they used him, considering that he's a Patek watchmaker, but whatever. Dude knows his shit.

FYI, RedBar is hosting the afterparty this year, so if you want to get your drink on Saturday night, let me know and I'll shoot you a link to the RSVP.

And, yes, I'm paying for the space and the booze, so it's a great opportunity to take complete advantage of my sorry ass.
