Re: ARES Watch Company

erikclabaugh , maybe dig a little deeper about both the watch and person before reaching conclusions. Lifetime warranty and genuine focus on build quality adds value to me  I immediately think of CWC and Marathon watches as a good comparison for tool quartz watches at a similar price point. A...

Re: Gold Tuna and Fools Gold Tuna comparison

I may have to try one at some point.
I also loved my SBBN015 Tuna, but it was just a bit too big, so I found I wasn't wearing it that much.

A cheap(er) alternative to this Breitling Chrono (which does look very nice) is the new Hamilton Intra-Matic.
That's the one I'm waiting to see.
Saw this on facebook today..

Re: Wrong Movements Installed in Unimatic U1?

Fitment take 2: I think I can see how this works now, or at least speculate. The bottom of the top white spacer fits over the "factory" grey spacer like a shroud. It then narrows to fit closer to the movement. There is a bump on the side of the spacer that fits in a groove of the case to locate the ...

Re: Wrong Movements Installed in Unimatic U1?

Just to summarize: this thread has lots of words, no pictures, and no boobies. Oh and some company is shafting its clients by sending out a movement other than advertised, poorly fitted in a case made for the advertised movement. The company advertised the movement in it. The caseback has the wrong...

Re: Wrong Movements Installed in Unimatic U1?

To answer a few questions: My caseback does not state bph. Yes the movement has the grey Seiko spacer attached, then the white one is just placed on top. It just sort of fitted in the gap, and came out easily. The white spacer does not look custom made, it has a bunch of slots and notches that don't...

Re: Wrong Movements Installed in Unimatic U1?

Oh I agree for the most part. I generally dislike most micros for this kind of reason, but have dabbled a couple of times in the <$500 price range and enjoyed what I have got. I think I paid less than $500 for this watch, and that is the level of expectation I have for it, just like an equivalent Se...

Re: Wrong Movements Installed in Unimatic U1?

I think an improved spacer is the easier way to solve the problem. As per the Dagaz video, the 9015 mvmt fits very nicely, but then I would have to deal with dial/hands/crownstem not fitting. This has now turned into a practical exercise for me, rather than theory, so if anyone has experience or ide...

Re: Wrong Movements Installed in Unimatic U1?

It sucks, because I really like it.

It is a very sought after model (I regularly get asked if I want to sell it), but I would actually feel like an asshole trying to sell it at this point.

Re: Wrong Movements Installed in Unimatic U1?

i really call bullshit on this one. something isn't right. i wonder if that dude got it from Unimatic? Also isn't that a Maxi dial that just came out? Why would it go to Jake if it was under warranty? Weird to say the least. It is a U1-DN, which was last years production run released around May 201...

Re: Wrong Movements Installed in Unimatic U1?

The plastic spacer seem like a cheap solution to an obvious production issue. Having said that, Unimatic have now produced a few thousand watches. If all the watches were an internal disaster like the one in the video surely we would hear more about it  maybe time will tell. I haven't had any...

Re: Wrong Movements Installed in Unimatic U1?

I will speculate: They designed and prototyped the case/watch with the Miyota movement in mind. For whatever reason (cost, availability, whatever) they had to go with the Seiko NH35. Obviously this caused fit issues with the case, and the easiest (not best) solution was to come up with that extra pl...

Damn. That's interesting.
I haven't had any issues with the 3 models I have had (still have 1)
Makes me curious about having a look inside though.

I will interested to see what (if anything) Unimatic has to say about this..

Lume dial is cool.
I don't like that it is a LE of 1000 though, as it would be great as a lower cost beater rather than a premium priced novelty.
These are $500 if you can find them :tap:
