Re: Musk’s “Blade Runner” truck

Plus, the glass is indestructibl...CRASH!

I mean did you see the actual presentation?
Musk spoke like he had just jugged down 1 gallon of bourbon

Similarly to wework, 5 years from now people will look at this and think “how did we not see it coming?”

Ask for wire only, split the fees.
If he really is a buyer he’ll understand, if not, you’ve dodged a bullet.

Re: Good Scotch at Costco?

Because some distilleries that have been appreciated by customers either closed (Port Ellen) or have much more demand than production (Suntory - Yamazaki), prices of some whiskies shot up in price significantly.

So, similarly to watches, some people mistakenly think whiskies can be an investment.

Good Scotch at Costco?

Yes.
No
It’s from the island of Skye
Tastes almost like an islay but a little more briny.

I absolutely adore peaty scotches but I know they’re not for everyone.
As you mentioned Speyside tends to be a less divisive taste

Re: Good Scotch at Costco?

Talisker is a great option but similarly suo Islay whiskies, it’s peaty (not everybody likes that).

Johnny Blue in my opinion is insanely overpriced, a Chivas 18 is half the price and four times better.

At around $2k, a second hand quartz Grand Seiko can be a great option.

Don’t know the seller but this is a great deal for example

Timeless in Texas

Tangent:

I had a similar experience while trying to buy a handwound Nomos club with two separate vendors (one in Europe, one in Hong Kong).

Maybe it’s just that Nomos is low on stock on this particular sku and it’s hard getting one.

I’m surprised they’re still in business after the Anko shitfest.
Anyway, if one gives them money after seeing how they handled that issue, it’s in them.

It’s amazing how consistently the newer models seem to be worse than the prior ones lately.
Mostly by adding things that make no sense or modifications no one asked for.
The orange fish on the crown being a great example

Also, every GS is approximately 20% thicker than needed.
Except for the quartz ones, which is why they’re the GSs I prefer, in general.

Japanese tend to be very nice in their approach and smart/ruthless behind the scenes... I think it says 77000 yen, which would mean a not so dissimilar price to the old one (factoring in the usual discounts)

I guess the positive is that we can now hope for smaller GPS watches in the future.
This one is a fuming piece of shit, but if they came out with a 41mm GPS chrono that would be awesome.

That makes ETA based GMTs so much less functional.

Anything I sell that has value in hundreds of dollars or more, the default method is signature confirmation. Some buyers find that inconvenient and I will send without it as long as it's understood that I'll take no responsibility for anything that goes missing, but tracks as delivered. 100% agree.

Re: Is non screw down crown a deal breaker for people?

I also have a preference for screw down, but no issues whatsoever with a non screw down watch.
Water resistance is a totally overblown concern.
I even did multiple dives with a $10 Casio and a $59 seiko (both 30m WR) just to prove a point (there may be a thread somewhere around here).

Re: New Swiss/US movement ***Atelier Caliber 1***

Swatch people must be drunk. It seems like a very unprofessionally run company. They already decided to stop supplying ETA what, a couple years ago? Then backtracked in such spectacular fashion that you could find 2824 elabore grade in $300 micros lately. Now they are going back to "no supply" again?
