Re: Weiss 42mm Limited American Issue Field Watch

I especially like how he implements the hacking seconds feature into his cal 1003. Pull the crown and the seconds hand will continue to rotate until it reaches 12, where it stops perfectly in position, ready to sync up with your time setting. That's a cool feature. The Panerai P.1000 movement incor...

Re: Weiss 42mm Limited American Issue Field Watch

I've seen them machining screws and movement main plates in their shop and it is impressive what a small crew can do here in the states. The cal 1003 is very simple and not reinventing the wheel at all, but Cameron is obsessed with manufacturing this workhorse movement perfectly here in the states b...

Re: ugh. here we go again (new hodinkee LE with IWC)

Another tidbit I got from an IWC contact is that, goinfg forward, ceratanium case production will be scaled back and fewer and fewer references will offer it because it is a pain to work with and costs too much. Personally I don't think enough of the market sees the value enough to make it a more ma...

Re: ugh. here we go again (new hodinkee LE with IWC)

I don't see anything wrong with the lume , except for the fact some ppl don't like lume in that color... which is fine. I think the watch looks great and is what it needed to be for a basic pilots watch. The price aint great, but IWC offers plenty of cheaper options and will no doubt offer more to c...

Re: ugh. here we go again (new hodinkee LE with IWC)

I think IWC should spend more time showing how their Sellita made movements are improved (if any) and less time on explaining ceratanium, which their marketing explanation of it would make any chemist or metallurgist laugh. IWC seems to have a history of improving, tuning and modifying off the shelf...

   But a $6400 Sellita from IWC and Hodinkee will still be great re-sell fodder

regardless though, I do bet it wears amazingly well.

Re: ugh. here we go again (new hodinkee LE with IWC)

Yep my money is still on a 39mm, case in ceratanium, no-date pilot. That's very specific  We have found our Hodinkee insider! [emoji38] Hahaha I've met Hodinkee employees at their events and I can tell you, they won't release details of anything. They relish keeping things secret until relea...

Re: ugh. here we go again (new hodinkee LE with IWC)

I have a lot of friends that BS about knowing watch industry info all the time but sometimes I guess they tell the truth. Totally thought they were messing with me when they just agreed with me. These are the specs I guessed Hodinkee most likely would choose based on what I think they would design, ...

Re: ugh. here we go again (new hodinkee LE with IWC)

this piece is not a CF LE, it was done off the forums from what I heard.
It's pretty cool and simple, but too often when I see a pic of it, my first thought is that it looks like a fake IWC. :(

Re: ugh. here we go again (new hodinkee LE with IWC)

If the watch ends up being cool, then I'm all for it. I'm guessing it will be a special mark series watch. Interesting case material (not stainless steel) is my hope/guess. Definitely under 40mm if the revolution watch is any indication. Maybe no-date as well. Probably not as small as 36mm though, s...

Re: State Of Your Non-Dive Watch Collection

Awesome collection Ken. Funny to see the 3705 and BP right next to each other. The BP absolutely dwarfs it ;) Thanks! And you're exactly right, the BP seems even bigger next to the 3705 sitting in the box, but on the wrist they are a lot closer than I expected. http://i.imgur.com/GQwvurHl.jpg http:...

Re: New IWC Spitfire Collection

yeah they tend to do this with prototypes. The 8 day manual wind big pilot with the big date they released last year had the text "8 Days" on the dial and was taken off due to feedback before the production pieces hit the boutiques.

Re: 2019 Watch Goals

I had the FPJ CB before the hype took it into the stratosphere, and I wouldn’t rebuy it. It was an okay watch with unreal service costs. Yeah I would not pay aftermarket prices for one. Realistically I'd just go put my name on the list for a Chronometre Bleu and just wait. If I ever get it at retai...
